Bonhams Auction

Here are some recent auction results that are quite interesting.

"The Locker Collection of Australian History" was auctioned by Bonhams & Goodman on 29th April.
Numerous convict rivited leg irons and even a portable riveting forge were sold for often high prices. Including a riveted type ball and chain for AU $19,200 !

Plenty of other handcuffs, leg irons and end locks also went for big dollars.

Unfortunately I only found out about the auction today, being only a half hours drive away it would have been a good one to at least view.

That would have been a interesting auction to go to, it would worth it just to see the stuff up close. I only saw one pair of handcuffs that were reproductions and only a few minor error in descriptions...

I found item #1177 interesting in that it shows how the type 1 and the elongated type 2 leg irons were used as a set. Until now I was unsure why they had made the type 2's at all.
I am disappointed I missed the auction, I was told most of the items were purchased by a museum.

DOESN'T LOT 1064 LOOK NOT COMPLETE MISSING CHAIN LINKS,note bottom loop should be feed through top loop and turned with chain links attached to it see narrow wearing on it's end caused by links movement as you would walk or in this case hobble along
this would make it a puzzle shackle
the way it is now you could easily slip hand or foot(depending on size it is)
out of the left(in pic) side
