La Policiere Handcuffs

Hello,

could anybody tell me, who made these French Bockin-clone handcuffs and how old they are? They are marked "La Policiere " and "Bte S.G.D.G." and are made of light metal (aluminum?). The key is not original (I modified a GDR Vopo handcuffs key), but works perfect.

I have had a pair of these for sometime and have never known what they are.
When I bought them the dealer said they were used in Belgium and I believe what he said was true. But of course being used in Belgium does not mean they were made in Belgium.

I have shown this picture to the people of the policemuseum over here in Belgium but the cuffs are unknown to them so I doubt that they have been used in Belgium (certainly not on a large scale) and it is almost sure that they weren't made here. As I have seen them for sale in France, it is more likely that they are indeed French made.

I made a little web-research and found out that "Bte S.G.D.G." is an abbreviation for a typical phrase concerning products from France. "Bte" is short for "breveté" (="patented") and " S.G.D.G." stands for "Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" (="without government guarantee"). The same abbreviations are on my three French "La Massenotte" handcuffs, right after " "FABon FRANse". It is not impossible that the same phrase is used in Belgium, but all clues led to France.

BTW: it is interesting how such an obvious Bockin copy could get its own patent. It seems that the Bockin patent was not a worldwide one.

BTW: the translation of "La Policiere" is "The Policewoman". What a nice model name! Maybe the cuffs were primary designed for female officers. This might also be an explanation for the comparatively big key - it could be easier operated with long finger nails .
