I need info on when these handcuffs were made. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The serial number would help some, but the best guess would be around the 60's. They are fairly common handcuff and I see alot of wear and rust on them which affects value alot.

They are run-of-the-mill Smith & Wesson Model 1s. I'd guess they are less than 20 years old, judging by the condition, but they could be older. They are in current production. You can but a pair from S&W for $ 32.95. I can sell you a pair for twenty five bucks.


You can probably sell yours on eBay for around twenty bucks, if you get any bids. We can help you write the ad.

Adam,
They are certainly from the 60's, possibly early 60's and are Model 90, nickel plated. The main telltale sign is when the indent on each side of the cuff is located for starters, the later versions had the indent above the key hole while the earlier versions was more to the side towards the center. The other clue is the swivels are more rounded with no sharp edges. Another indication is the serial number being only 5 digits, mine are 44594 & *83586. The later model 90's has 6 digits for serial numbers. As for how much they are worth, not a whole lot of money, maybe in the $30-5 range but with the wear and rust on them takes the vaule down($15-25). There are alot of these handcuffs in existance like Peerless handcuffs.

The dark spots aren't rust i think its just where the nickel rubbed off i took a dremmel to them and got probably a good 99% of the rust off, on the dark spots however the dremmel didn't doa a thing for it

"RUN OF THE MILL MODEL 1'S"???? I thought people here are supposed to know what they're talking about when it comes to handcuffs! Those are certainly not S/W Model 1's Dennis! Please educate yourself before you post.

Okay, I am going throw my two cents in here.....they are common S&W model 90's (popular here in the states through out the 70's and 80's and still carried by some police and armed guards around my neck of the woods). Here is a photo of a pair of mine:

hi ! all: are you sure that they are model 90's ??? look more like model 91s.... hard to tell, as i do not think that they are plated, but POLISHED... aged over so hard to tell....joe

I have polished them up and i do have to say they look almost brand new even the dark spots aren't so dark anymore wish i could post and after pic
