I have a pair of handcuffs the I know is over 20 years because they were given to me by my dad. just how old I am not sure. I am looking to sell them. can anyone tell me
what they are worth?

Their Worth whatever you want to sell them for. and what a Buyer is willing to pay for them.

Looks like a pair of Hiatt 104 Darby non-adjustables (steel version) from the 1950's-1970's.....with an original key. Hmmmm, I payed about $50.00 for a set very similar to your about a year and a half ago. My guess is they are worth a little bit more than I paid. Hope this helps.

Yes it open and closes easy with key.
On one side of the cuff it says Hiatt Best
British Mad on the other side
the key just says Hiatt on it.

You'll probably get between US$ 75 and 175 on eBay. The rest depends on your description and the luck of the draw.

Dennis, $175.00???? $75.00, yeah......$100.00 maybe, doubt it, but maybe......but $175.00???? I think you are being just a tad optimistic here. I just watched two pairs of Tower bottom keys, in good shape, and each went for less than that. I have also seen Maltby and and a pair of Caveney go for less than that (recently). These Darbies are nothing special.

I just watched two pairs of Tower bottom keys, in good shape, and each went for less than that. I have also seen Maltby and and a pair of Caveney go for less than that (recently).

Yep. And we've both seen complete crap go for riduculous prices. And we've both copped a steal or two. These ain't crap. Seventy five bucks is pessimistic. One seventy five is optimistic, I agree.

You're also watching closer than I must be. The trouble is, if I watch too carefully, I don't have beer money at the end of the month.

I would venture to guess that the cuffs are at least 30-5 years of age, maybe more. I once owned a pair just like these back in the 70's that was just steel and would rust easily so I would keep a light coat of oil on them to stop them from rusting. It has the exact same profile including the key and markings. They were fairly common back then too so I would not put a high dollar value on them. Now if they were Nickel plated, then that would be better adn your prices seem generous to me.

Dennis, yes I am watching VERY close right now and have been for the last 6 months or so. I am not a beer drinker, so I will contine to watch close until I have the few pieces I am seeking. BTW, I just scored one of those presious pieces a couple of nights ago.....WAY CHEAP, so yes, you are right about me "copping a steal or two". >=)

Dorson, the ones I bought for about $50.00 that I mentioned are plated with zero plating loss on the cuffs, the key is another story. Here is a photo of them:

Thanks for posting the pictures and I went and compared the 2 Hiatts of around that time frame. I have one I know is from the 60's, plated and one unplated, and with the memory of the one I did have. When did Hiatt's switch to casting the bow as I call it that connects the chain together. The ones I have is where there was a hole and the eye staked in and ground smooth. The ones you have pictured along with the adjustable ones show that it is cast as one piece. So I suspect sometime in the 70's maybe is when they started to cast it as one piece. Anyone know more details and I am too curious about the SPF markings.

Several years ago a large number of Darby styled SPF cuffs came on the market that were supposed to have been used by the Singapore Police Force. Singapore was a British Crown Colony until the 1950s, so that makes some sense.

The Singapore Police Force today still uses the SPF initials.
