Hiatt 115 Darby Adjustables

Hello, I have a pair of mint condition Hiatt 115 Darby adjustables with an original box and key that I would like to sell/trade in the near future. However, I would like to get a little more info on them before I seek a buyer. I have posted pictures below of the cuffs, key, and box. As you can see, there is a number on both cuffs and the key (1607) and "SPF" stampped right under Hiatt. Does anyone know what this number means or what "SPF" stands for??? These cuffs have 100% of the original plating and so does the key. The box has some wear on it in several places, but it is the original box none the less. The cuffs work great (there is a heavy, loud snapping noise when you lock them) and they look as though they have never been used at all. I am taking serious offers (trade offer as well). Don, one thing I noticed that can give a clue to their age is on the box. Look close:
It appears that the Hiatt Peerless and the Hiatt 1970 are pictured on the side of the box.....no older than 1970, for sure. Also, they are nickle plated steel, so they were made before they started making the cast aluminum/zinc/pot metal crap (1980's???). I think we just narrowed it down considerably. Any other thoughts?

Concerning the date of the cuffs, I feel that your dates are out a little. I own this identical cuff also marked SPF in the same mint, boxed condition but I have number 1604. The picture of the cuffs on the box which was used to narrow down their age are Hiatt Peerless but not however Hiatt 1970's. The other cuff pictured is actually a Hiatt Reliant cuff. If you look closely you can see Reliant written in one of the pictures. This dates them to 1950's to very early 60's. Joe L will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong but the Reliant was introduced in the 50's and was short lived. Assuming the printing of the boxes didn't change for a while I think by the 70's reference to Reliant cuffs would have been removed.

I think these cuffs like mine were acquired but never issued from stores. The boxes would have parted company with the matching cuffs. SPF could be almost any town or city in the UK beginning with an S and having a Police Force rather than a constabulary.

I also have several pairs of Hiatt 104's with SPF stamped on and other 104's without the SPF but are an exact match in all other respects including the identical key and other stampings but dated to 1953.

I think the boxes were all printed in the 1950s, but were likely still used into the 60s. The Reliant cuff was sold in the early 1950s. The key missing cuff, is not the 1970 model, but the 1960 model. If the box had been printed any later than the 1950s the very popular 1960 model would surely have been shown.

As I mentioned in another thread, I think the SPF mark is for the Singapore Police Force. They have to be from some place "big", because the SPF cuffs are very numerous.

Yes I beleive you're correct with Singapore. The offical Singapore Police Force web site does actual refer to the force as SPF several times and other police related sites also term Singapore Police Force as SPF

I have been talking back and forth with some people through e-mail and from what I can gather, $250.00 is in the ball park. I don't collect handcuff boxes and really don't know squat about them, but I guess they really do add to the cuff's value.
