A few weeks ago I bought a Darby on eBay from a dealer in Peru. It showed up in the mail this week.

The cuff is in nice shape, but there are no identifying marks. The profile of the cuff with the rounded lock tube is rather unusual. The chain is fastened to the cuff off center in a lower than normal position. A standard English Darby key fits the lock. Can anyone help me identify the cuff?

Joe could this be a Early Darby and. who has the Oldest Darby and what does it look like.

The basic Darby design is very old, the Romans had a similar cuff.
The oldest factory made Darby with a identifiable manufacturer would be a Griffin Darby and would be 200 years old. Alex Nichols has a picture of one in his book take in a museum.

joe do these take a hiatt key or others, cause my fwsm's will take a frogatt or thompson but not hiatt

The Darby from Peru will open with a standard Hiatt key. It is not a perfect fit, but the springs are pretty weak so it does not take much.
