Pretty cool fakes

Is that plate glued on or is that some sort of welding? Anyway, great for a laugh and will include it in a class I am doing this week for a group on old cuffs and stuff.

Perhaps he should have labeled them FoolSome State Prison.

look at how long it takes them to ship them 7-14 Days i got one set of handcuffs from Ebay that it took the shipper over two months to send me my cuffs.

It's that 100 year old epoxy. It was a very rare substance in 1864, increasing the rarity of the cuffs.

That's probably their best use. Those goofy Darbies with the big external backer plate have started to show up, recently. Somebody's got a containerload of 'em.

There is a similar pair that is actually used in Pakistan by their police. This pair was brought back by a local deputy sheriff who served in the military in Pakistan and brought it back for me. He negotiaited it away from a Policeman in Pakistan.

Jason, that's FUNNY! Foolsome! LOL! I like the basic shape and look of the cuffs, Stan's too! It is a little different than the normal Darbies.....and if the price was right (considering what they are) I would like to have a pair.

Glad you got a chuckle out of that.
Back in the late 80’s I picked up pair of adjustable Indian darbies at a flea market for $10. They arrived by boat and came packed in the thickest of axle grease, but once cleaned up, they were actually nice for what I paid for them. One of the cuffs wouldn’t close to the last position, so I corrected it by removing a burr on the receptacle with a metal file.
The crude casting gave them an interesting primitive look not found on European darbies.

On another note, I really like the latest offerings from Kub and Victor Works coming out of Pakistan these days. I noticed that they now offer the Hamburg 8s in a linked cuff, and those stainless steel head cages would look right at home on a dungeon wall. I’d love to see them reproduce more of the obscure cuffs, such as the extremely rare Luna cuffs and others.

Fake handcuffs? I just can't believe it. I opened an Ebay consignment shop and was shocked but somewhat understood about the amount of fake coins, and the fake/forged autographs on ebay, but fake handcuffs too? There is just no end to what these frauds will do. I guess anywhere there is a few dollars to be made honestly, there's going to be someone there to try and steal it. Oh Well:(

You'd be surprised at the number fake "antique" handcuffs aold on eBay. Almost anything sold as slave irons or Old West or with the name of a famous prison are fake, particularly if they have a brass tag proclaiming their provenance.

There are real ones out there, too. I believe Michael has a set of rather unique blacksmith made leg irons for sale now, and I've bought a couple of pair that actually appear genuine.

There's an excellent eBay guide to handcuffs up. It was written by one of ours.

Ones like you have are seldom faked, as it would be expensive to make fakes, except for incredibly rare stuff. Most of the fake stuff comes out of India and Pakistan, and are recognizable at 1000 yards once you've seen the difference. There are innumerable cheap "Official Police" cuffs up. I call them "Party Cuffs," as that's about all they're good for, and they're not much good for that, either.
