Terry Roses, and myself (John Bushey) will be there from Duluth, MN. I'll attend the whole convention except Stan's talk on Saturday (haha---just kidding Stan). Looking forward to it. I'm sure Mark Lyons, Joe Fox, and I believe Michael
Busch will also be there. Who else??? Let us know.

Wouldn't miss this for the world.
I will be hosting a free Maine Lobster dinner prepared by some of the finest chefs in the world and served by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders on Houdini's personal tableware. Champagne and Belgian Chocolate fountains will be flowing to kick off the show. This event unfortunately coincides with Stan's speech, so take your pick which event you plan on attending.

I will be presenting some handcuff related videos and hope that some of you can share any video that you may have. If any of you have video coverage of any escapes that you did or saw that can be shown, I welcome the chance to talk to you and show it.
Andrew in Italy, Dean in Canada, and many others who have attended the show in the past should send me a DVD of your fantastic escapes or record breaking feats for all of us to see. I hope to show some TV shows that is cuff related, so your suggestions are welcome.
Any rare or historical films would be an asset as well.
Please let me know what you have or want to see. I do take requests!

I will be there. Would not want to miss it. I need to go to Stan's talk so I can finally figure out why anyone would want to collect handcuffs.

I would like to make a special request for the Handcuff Annual 2008. Anyone who has an unusual cuff that they think would be of interest to others bring it to the convention and I will photograph it for the book. I plan to have a section that is simply a gallery of new finds and treasures.

And yes - Handcuffs.org will be giving away free cuffs again this year.

Good to see such an international crowd and looking forward to meet them.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, see below) my confirmed flight will departs LAX at 23:50 (Saturday) which means I have to leave the venue at 9pm. If Stan's lecture is scheduled after 9, "fortunately" I can skip that.

I am still wait-listing the flight on Sunday, if "unfortunately" confirmed, then I have to attend Stan's lecture.

Hi Everybody,

I just got the sad news that Thursday October 4th is parents night at my school. I am bound by contract to be there. That is one binding I cannot escape from. What this means is I will be there on Friday as planned, and may even make an LAX airport run if needed, but I will not be able to help anyone on Thursday. (Sorry about that Lars) By I am looking forward to seeing you all Friday Evening. I am really bummed about that, but there is not much I can do.

Hi,

I'm actually considering a short trip to the States for the convention... I have a tight schedule in October, but I might arrange it.

I already tried to contact the Cannons, but guess they're busy with preparations? Are there any special requirements for the full registration or is the convention also fully open to handcuff collecting hobbyist escapists and lockpickers like me?

And: does anybody know details of the schedule? Especially Friday evening and Saturday? When I travel to the States I might want to combine it with a short visit on Saturday morning near San Diego, and would be interested if I miss half of the fun then?

@Lars: in case I'll go there I'd be at LAX short before 1700 and would have a rental car then, so it wouldn't be a problem. But don't rely on it until my flight is booked

San Diego seems to be a popular destination. I guess that I am blessed to live here.
I will be picking Peter from Belgium up earlier in the week and will be going to the convention on Thursday. We are going to do some San Diego stuff like the Zoo/Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. I will be going back home on Sunday afternoon. If you wish to visit anytime before Thursday or anytime after Sunday morning, or during the ride up and down, you are more than welcome.
I will be happy to pick you up at the airport at any time (San Diego- Lindbergh Field)

As far as the convention goes, there is only 2 requirements...an interest in cuffs/escapes/etc. and the registration fee.

Hope we will see you there and I hope I can see you in San Diego!

Hi,

OK, I just booked the flight and the full convention ticket - so see you there... Really looking forward to meet you all in person!

@all: anybody willing to share a two bed room in the hotel? I'll arrive on Thursday and leave most probably on Sunday. Haven't booked anything there yet.

@Lars: I'll hopefully arrive at LAX on Thursday at 16:29 local time and will pick up my rental car there. So it's no problem to give you a ride to the convention hotel and I'd be pleased to do so!

@Mark: Thanks for the offer! Haven't planned much yet in detail, I'll send you an email...

So does anybody have information about the more detailed schedule, especially Friday night/Saturday morning+noon?

FRED

Hi fellow Conventioneers,

I want to introduce you to a new little friend of mine. This driving aid was given to me for Fathers Day.
Lars, I think you will like yours as much as I do mine.
Some of you had the pleasure of traveling with me to and from the Convention and Magic Castle in previous years, so you will know how much this gift means to me.
I have named this little device "Fred" as this is the electronic replacement for the real Fred that previously had been my living and breathing GPS unit.
This Fred is not quite the companion that the real Fred was, but this one is available 7/24. Unfortunately, it does not give directions in a New Yorker accent nor will it allow me to meet new people in strange places, but it will get me to the convention in good time.

I agree with you, these small devices are extremely handy and I love mine as much as you do.

On the other hand, don't forget the scenic trips we had from LA to Ontario in 2005, so many laughs. Maybe there is a setting for "random driving" or just "social scenic driving "

Hi,

@Lars: possibly you can remember some of the wrong turns from 2005, so we can get lost before we start the GPS Otherwise we can just use Google maps, I was a bit surprised when doing the following: Search for "Ontario, California" on maps.google.com (works flawlessly), click the "Get directions: to here" link in the bubble, and enter "LAX" as "Start address". Have fun. Technology at work. So: yes, bring your GPS!

Regarding the flight: it's booked and non-refundable, so I consider this as confirmed. Let's exchange some contact information by email, but I expect this to work out except for the usual risks of delayed flights etc. My plane's scheduled to arrive at 16:29 from Minneapolis so we should be there at about the same time.

@all: so nobody in for a room sharing (Thu-Sun or part of that)? I think that would be attractive as single bed and two bed rooms seem to be the same rate...

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone was going to stay at the hotel after the convention ends and stay til Monday morning.
I think there was a few people last year that departed on Monday.
The show ends about 12:00 Sunday but I will be staying after to strike down the sets and stage and to help load up some of the equipment and will go home after that. I figure about 1 or 2 O' clock.
I was going to suggest, if there is a small group, that you should organize a Magic Castle trip or do some sightseeing or get together for lunch or dinner. Maybe even get airport transportation together.
If there is any interest, maybe you wish to post in this thread or start one of your own.

@Martin: Let's hope our flights will be in time. Last years there have been no delays. If we wish any "Scenic trips" we just turn the GPS off .

@Mark: A lunch and a sightseeing after the Convention (like 2005) on Sunday would be just great! If we also are riding in the direction to LAX it would be just perfect. My flight back is not departing until 6 PM.

I am looking forward to this! In fact, I actually have a favor I'd like to ask. On October 13, I am participating in the Public Show with the local magic club. I have been working on a new escape, that I'd like to have a "test audience" first. If I bring all my stuff for the routine (with the exception of a couple of non-incidental props), would anyone care to see my routine and give me some honest critiques? I'd have right at a week to put some polishes on the routine.

The non-incidental props include a goldfish bowl and a toolbox....both of which would take up too much room in my luggage and the routine can be done without losing much by excluding those particular props.

Now, let me take a poll...who all is now wondering what type of routine I am doing that requires a goldfish bowl and a toolbox?

Joe, only the goldfish bowl, no goldfish. It will be used to hold a bunch of keys that I have to select the proper one in order to open one of the locks.

As for the gold....well, I am still trying to work out attire for the routine....don't know if I need to go with a party dress or some other outfit. Should I bring several and get opinions on what works best?
