S&W PROTOTYPE

Some of you might have seen this prototype on ebay, and thought it wasn't a prototype. There are differences between it and the model 1 production cuffs.

PROTOTYPE (top of picture) is marked as such.
It is put together different than standard cuff.
There is no raised area on the lockcase where the swivel attaches.
There is no model number marked on the prototype.
The S&W logo is larger and does not have wording around it.
The finish is nicer than current production and is a shinier finish.
The double locking button is too small and the end is rounded. This causes the key to slide off and makes it difficult to use. Later models have a larger, flat button..
Anyone see any other differences ?

Is the center plate, and therefore the bows thicker on the prototype?

It does look that way in the picture, but it is probobaly the angle it was taken at. The bows mic the same and the thickness of the lockcases are the same within a few thousanths.

I just found out that the cuffs came from an S&W sales rep.
Maybe they were getting dealers opinions about if it is a good idea and would sell.

In everyone's opinion, would you prefer the S/W #1's or the ASP model for a universal cuff choice?

I personally like the S/W's better, they're more solid.

Yes the ASP cuffs can be opened with a knife. Funny thing is, a lot of Police Officers like them and are using them more & more. Good news for the bad guys I guess. I'll stick with my Smith & Wesson's!
