Umm Not Colt

Hi,

Like most of us, I get tied of wading though the hundreds of novel ways people try and advertise the Indian darby trash. I think most collectors are now well aware of it. It may be saleable to re enactors or just as a curio but I think most will agree it's the biggest eBay bain to cuff collectors.

I recently posted a comment about the now obsolete, riveted Singapore leg shackles which turn up on eBay for around $150. An Asian product sourcing site I use for work purposes names the manufacture and the fact they can be purchased for only $2.00 per pair however, minus the Singapore prison connection.

Getting to the point of this post. Check out item eBay item 280142505050 Not a Colt iron claw but a pair of Hied & Roth nippers which someone has stamped with a rampant horse. Possibly to con some poor Colt collector…….. or maybe the really thing you decide.

I'm sure the seller isn't at fault but I wonder if we see more of these.

Hello,

Colt are not the only one with a rampant horse. This one on the Heid & Roth nipper is the code of arms of the German city Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg, home of Mr. Heid, inventor of this nipper.

If it's a true Colt logo, the rampart horse will have two arrows intermixed betwixt his two upraised front legs.

They are sometimes mistaken for scratches, but they've been an integral part of the Colt logo since 1847, or thereabouts.
