Curious about your handcuff collection

I just read another post where someone said they had hundreds of pairs of handcuffs and another post about a show or convention for handcuffs. I knew that maybe someone who collected antiques would maybe have some old handcuffs or leg irons in their collection, but, I just never knew that people specifically collected these items. I know I'm new here and I'm not a collector, but, if you don't mind me asking, I would like to know how many pairs you have in your collection, and do you have them displayed in cabinets or on the wall? What got you interested in collecting them? Anything else you might want to add, I'd love to hear that too. Thanks for your time! Angela

Angela i picked up a pair of S&W's back in 2003 and had those for a few years. then this year i started buying more. right now i have under 20 Pairs of Handcuffs i get most of mine from Ebay plus i have a few other Sources to get some from ( i used to buy from Wheeler Tanner Years ago when they were in Great Falls Montana but they are no More. There you Could Call up get a Hello and tell them what you wanted they'll let you know if they had it in Stock or not and even send it out C.O.D. ) the way i'm keeping my Handcuffs right now are in a Briefcase and some are in the purple Crown Royal Bags.

So you purchased 19 pair of handcuffs this year? Looks like you are off to a pretty good start of collecting your hundreds:) You might need a bigger briefcase soon!

Angela, I have a lot of cuffs, I don't count them for a few of reasons: #1, too many to count, #2, always buying new cuffs (making it hard to keep a number straight), and finally #3.....it would just cheapen the whole collecting experience. LOL!

I have three big folding cabinets that have cuffs and locks in (they are displayed at my Escape shows) and a few walls full of cuffs. Here is a picture of two of the three cabinets: Every week on MySpace I post a blog called, "Handcuff, Lock, or Restraint of the Week" in which I post pictures of a particular Handcuff, Lock, or Restraint along with info on said restraint....this week's cuff is the Tower Bean handcuff that I found at the last ALCA lock show. <a href=http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 395>wicked cool blog</a>

As far as getting into collecting, I got started before consious memory.....I have always loved Houdini but I can not remember ever not knowing who he was. As a kid, I took a trip to Niagra Falls, Canada and toured the Houdini museum. There were ALL KINDS of antique cuffs, shackles, and restraints......I was in awe!!! Ever since then, I have loved handcuffs and have been seeking them out! Well, that's the short story and with that, I will just say, "Welcome to the cuff collecting community"!

I started to collect restraints in 1970. I have around 250 diffrent handcuffs and legirons. Some of them have belongd to famous magicians and escape artists. Some restraints are from our Swedish prisons and our police force.

Bill, I just won these Fury 15900 cuffs on eBay a few weeks ago and to my suprise, they were in 100% new condition when I opened the package. I guess some eBay suprises are good ones! =)

Congratulations on winning those mint Fury cuffs. I remember when those were selling for $50 back in the mid 80’s. They have become somewhat scarce these days. It’s too bad for the rest of us that Alcyon doesn’t make ‘em like that anymore.
