Has anyone heard of these?

Apparently, H-T has introduced a new low-end handcuff.

My distributor describes them as follows:

We are pleased to announce a very special order from Hiatt-Thompson USA:
The NEW Hiatt-Thompson 2222 chain handcuff. These non-NIJ certified cuffs will give your customers a very affordable option for security, transport, and other deployment situations from which recovery may not be an option.

In other words, H-T is offering a semi-disposable cuff.

From the photo, the sideplates and bows are quite thin, possibly as thin as Furys. The bows are not ditched. I can't tell if they double lock, but would be surprised if they do not. They are probably as-stamped and wire-wheeled with what appears to be a layer of nickel plating.

The photo is not very good, as I don't actually have any in my possession. I'll post a better pic when they come in. I have a chance to pre-order some from my supplier. I don't know when they will hit the street, but I imagine it will be pretty soon.

Is anyone interested? If you let me know, I can add some to my pre-order for you. Let me know here or at w7xw-gw8b@spamex.com I'll send you an invoice when they come in.

Be the first kid on your block to own a pair.

Oh yeah, they'll be $15.00 plus $5.00 S&H.

Where can I get one of these at $15? I went to the uniform store and I didn't see these for $15, I think they were $30. The cheapest handcuffs they had were those HCW cuffs my co-worker has for $22.

Thanks,

Where can I get one of these at $15?

If you dare buy from me, and I'd not blame you if you spit at me, I have about a dozen pair on order. I expect them in next week.

But I don't recommend them as a duty cuff, at least not sight unseen. The reason is that they are too narrow, and can cause injury. They are designed as a semi-disposable cuff. Personally, I don't think they'll be on the market for long.

I carry a Korean cuff that I like better for two bucks more. It's not NIJ certified, few cuffs actually are, but it looks like an NIJ quality cuff, and appears to be duty quality. I haven't had any complaints about them, but then again, you haven't any complaints about your Valors. <shrug>

The Galls cheapo cuffs are comparable quality at, what, nineteen bucks? I don't recall.

Then Hiatts 10 oz standard cuffs, Peerless 700, and S&W 100 are twenty five, from any of a number of sources, including me. You can't go wrong with those.

I did some asking and actually picked up a great pair of cuffs. I was talking with one of the police officers I know when we had an incident at our store. He saw my cuffs and told me I need to stop using them immediately. He actually gave me a pair of Smith & Wessons for free that he had in his duty bag! I think these are kind of old though because they don't look like the S/W's they sell in Galls. The arm is a lot tighter to close then my Valor's but I guess that's how they are. Either way, I came out pretty good but I owe him one.

Better on him. You definitely owe him a beer or three. The old S&Ws are nice. They'll outlive the two of us.

Thanks everyone, I'm still trying to get used to these cuffs. I can't wait to try them on the next person that I get in the store. For me, I need to break them in, although, they've probably seen a lot of use over the years. I compared them to a picture on this website and yes, they are the model 90 cuffs.

I like the S&W model 90, a work horse of a cuff, they seem to be a fave of a lot of people. I only have the one pair so they are in the collectors grouping and not used at work. Still kick myself for not buying a brace of them when offered a few years back.

Awww, give 'im a break.

He's likely to have to use them. Better that he have good-uns. If he had been using a flintlock in his work, he'd be damned happy to have a new SIG to pop off.

Mr S. There are a couple of books on tactical handcuffing training. You might have a look in Gall's catalog. It would probably be a good investment to spand the money you saved on cuffs on some informal training, at least.

No sense in your putting some lawyer's kids through college.

Observe. Detect. Deter. Stay safe.
