#2Is there any documentation that the US gummint actually ordered those things, or that these were actually submitted to the government?
I can't see any valid reason to apply a hokey camo pattern to handcuffs.
I'm sure some of our gurus have sharper eyes than mine, but outside of a goofy paint job that so-far has not been authenticated, what is special about these cuffs, that would make them "too much expensive to build."

this topic also came up in our european forum a few days ago, and there were some suspections these could be home-made fakes.
But some research revealed that these were sold by the discounthandcuffwarehouse on ebay some time ago, with the same information (made by H-T, only 31 pcs) given, so I believe they're genuine. I'm also pretty sure I saw them on their (DHW) website a while ago.
I believe they were a prototype or proof-of-concept type of thing, either on request by or as a suggestion to the army, but it never came to an actual order so they weren't produced in masses. "Too expensive" can mean many things, possibly just "the advantage of the camouflage isn't worth the $3 more they cost".
We are also unsure if it's an after-production paint-job, or if the colors were applied before baking the color on, which also wouldn't be a big deal. What's for sure: the pattern is not the same on all cuffs, position of the stripes varies.
Martin (who thinks these are a funny thing to have, but not worth about $100. The original buyers got them starting as low as $33 a short time ago, some of them seem to try to make some profit now...)

"I bought this handcuffs at DHW (Discount Handcuffs Warehouse) and they certify that it has only 31 specimen in the world. And one of my contact Jerome Smith (u.s.armystuff@gmail.com) my informed which were made for us army in Iraq. Thanks.
"P.S. I have the last 3 pair for sale."

#7Well, that certainly makes them interesting.
If what you say is correct, and I'm not doubting your word, it sounds like H-T ran up some cuffs on spec, gave them a custom paint job, and tried to sell them to the Army who wasn't interested. Quite frankly, I don't think the custom paint job adds anything to the cuffs from a military point of view, but that doesn't detract from their potential collector's interest.
Does the finish look like it's part of Hiatt's baked on finish, or is it just paint?

#10Well its better than his original price ....and i dont have these......i dont really belive that there are only 31 pairs made ......so i will just put them in the cuff pyle.....lol

#11OK, there are actually 32 camo handcuffs, but 1 was never sold. Hiatt-Thompson told me they originally made 7 pairs as an experiment and gave one to Armor Holdings (now BAE Systems) to display at trade shows. A customer saw them at a show and called us asking if we could get some. Chuck Thompson of H-T sold me the other 6 pairs. I didn't think they looked very good, but I asked him to make up an additional 25 to see if there would be much interest. We sold them quickly at $25.99, but when I tried to reorder, H-T said they had not realized that they would incur 3 powder coating charges per pair. H-T lost money selling to us, so they discontinued them. The claim that they were made for the US Army is incorrect, but they are very rare.
