So many cuffs, so little knowledge

Short story, I was the one who posted asking if anyone knew Rex. I know, stupid post, but was hoping. He was my bro and my best buddy, just passed away, former police officer, with all these handcuffs...UGH! I have been reading (constantly) and have learned a little. I can tell you a few things that I have, and maybe someone is interested, or can tell me whether I should just put them on EBAY or give me some diretion. I have S&W models 90,91,94, lots of peerless, I haven't even gone through them all. The more interesting ones I have come across so far, are:

Towers DBL lock legs irons with key (they are stamped USMC) and the chain is curved and is 12 links.

Towers DBL lock handcuffs with key, looks like union made (after reading earlier posts on here)

Polizei handcuffs with key

Hiatt handcuffs with screw key (same number stamped on cuffs and key)

But seriously, eBay is a risk.....sometimes you make out like a bandit, other times you find yourself paying for other people to take your stuff (yes, I have taken a bath on several items).

BTW, I don't think S&W made a model 91, you might want to re-check that one.

I saw your original post but didn't answer it because I thought you were trying to contact Rex. For confidentiality reasons, many will not pass on a third party's contact information without permission.

My condolences for the loss of your friend.

If the S&Ws and Peerless are run of the mill, they're all over eBay, and don't get fantastic prices. For used cuffs, you'd be competing with a lot of ten dollar and twenty dollar cuffs. Your best bet would be to check completed auctions and see what they are going for.

But be aware that subtle differences in the cuffs make them more valuable and of interest to collectors. Often a collector will pay a premium for a not particularly valuable cuff, just to fill out a gap in a collection. Things like patent number vs. Patent Pending, extraneous factory stamps, small differences in chain and swivel patterns can make a difference.

The Towers and Hiatts are more valuable. They're at the low endof "rare cuffs" because they aren't particularly rare, but again, subtle differences can add to their value. Again, look at completed auctions to get an idea what they're going for. In addition, check the back messages, here, for the "Monthly Auction Summary" or whatever it's called.

If you post photos, the denizens of this joint may be able to help. There's a lot of knowledge on this board.

Thanks for the tips. I have been reading all day, anyone have any new eyeballs for sale? I have been all over this forum and Ebay, among other places, and have overstuffed my brain. I actually have boxes for S&W that say "Model 91"....now I really have to do a lot more homework on all this obviously.

S&W Model 91 is the high-gloss version of the Model 90.
