Add in the auction house buyer premium of 22.5% to the $6,000 sale price, for a total of $7,350, and someone is going to have a serious raid on their piggy bank for this one.

But, since a floor bidder got it, they won't have to pay shipping and handling charges.

The lot prior to the boot was a "normal" set of Tower legirons without a key in fair condition, six folding keys, and seven "regular" keys. The price ONLY $650 plus 22.5% buyers fee.

Too many people with too much money. They did have a lot of good stuff. These were the only two lots with cuffs and restraints.

This was the same problem for collectors at the Jim Main Auction. Buyers who like something but have no idea of current market value. Of course when they go to sell they have to find someone else who likes it and has no idea of value. It was the nicest boot I've ever seen.

Sometimes new blood/collectors move in and this happens. I know it happens every so often in my field of collecting Houdini/Hardeen/Escape Artist material. It has it's plus and minuses.

As for the collector who bought at a high price and finding someone else to buy it later, may not be a factor. He bought it because he liked it. Selling it is not his equation. Since this item, the boot, is probably the nicest one out there, all others have to take a step down. I have done this myself. I call it "buying ahead of the market" or some call it, over-paying. I bought a Houdini piece years back for $1,500. People said "Are you nuts?", "Why waste your money?", etc. The piece when it comes up, routinely sells for 8K to 12K. I know I made a profit, but more important, I had all the years to enjoy it. Not to mention I don't have to talk to myself that I should of or could have bought the piece and missed it.
