Nelson Manacle

Recently a Nelson Manacle sold on eBay (#140182142356) for $460. It is a rarther rare nipper or come-along patented in 1904 by someone named Alex Nelson. The manacle is operated by a lever that is pushed down from the top. The one sold on ebay is missing the knob on the top of the lever.

I have one of these nippers and it has also lost the knob from the top. Someone replaced it with a larger knob made out of wood. I can pull the wooden knob off and the cuff looks just like the one sold on eBay. Missing the knob may be a common problem with these.

So here are my questions. Does anyone else have a Nelson Manacle? Does it have the original knob?

Hi Joe,

yes, I have a Nelson Manacle, and luckily it still has the knob in place. I will post a picture of it below. The second picture shows a Ward Nipper patented in 1908; both models look quite the same and may be mixed up easily, I think.
