No problem. I wanted to complete my peerless collection. It's one of 3 Peerless cuffs that I know of that I don't have. Franklin has been working on a list of all known Peerless cuffs, which will appear on the forum or on handcuffs.org. Can you send me, or post here, all the markings on right front, right rear, left front, left rear ? That would let us complete the list.

If I'm guessing correctly, the stampings will be:

Front:
THE PEERLESS HANDCUFF CO.
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.

Rear:
PAT. - PAT. PENDING
1157135 – 1161562 – 1531451
MADE IN U.S.A.

The rear of the right cuff will also have the Peerless logo stamped on it; the serial number (93579) will be stamped vertically on the left front cuff between the keyway and swivel.

When you get the cuffs, let us know.

Now that you are on this subject and I looked at some of my peerless, maybe you guys can help me. I have a pair with 4 patent #'s 1017956-1157135-1161562-1531451. Serial #67978 on one cuff only. C.P.D. stamped on other cuff.

And I have a pair of peerless with patent dates - Feb. 20, 1912 Oct. 19,1915 & Nov. 23, 1915 Mar. 31, 1925. Serial # 57804 on one cuff only.

Wow, $10! A tad better deal than the ones I got. Anyways, they are identical to the ones I got, the bluing a bit more intact than those ones though.

My turn to add to the confusion. I also have 2 cuffs marked the same as Becky's. One is Nickel finish and one has a chrome finish. Chrome is serial 61,494. Nickel is serial 70,598. The confusing one is serial 81142. It is marked "PAT.-PAT. PENDING 1157135-1161562-1531451". I would expect these markings to be before the 61,494 serial, not after it. I also have the model with 4 patent dates, and the serial numbers are before the ones with the patent numbers.

Nice cuffs Becky! I had pictured model 3 style with 4 numbers though, so your pic surprised me. Model 2 instead.

I might note too, that my 3 numbered model 3's differ from the ebay auction mentioned in that the right cuff has the stampings reversed from front to back. Seems like there was little consistency back in the early years.

Thanks Graham. My cuffs that have the 4 patent dates are Model 2 also, although they are nickel. These were all my brothers cuffs, and I haven't cleaned or done anything to them because I'm a rookie and am afraid of ruining something. It seems (from reading) my safest bet is to use gun oil, which I need to get some more anyway (for my guns).
