Darby balls again

I recently picked up this set of unnamed Darby cuffs complete with balls which makes at least three or four pairs floating around in collections.



I think it's safe to say that at least one manufacturer offered these as an accessory in order to reduce the wrist size on larger cuffs.

I already have a pair of Fields and now this unnamed pair. I think Joe has a pair of Dowlers, does anyone else have any other examples.

Great find. Are the balls on this set and your Fields identical? They look very much like the set that came with my Dowlers.

Thanks Joe,

They're very close in size not much more than 1mm difference in any dimension. My Field's only came with one ball and both it and the cuffs were plated. Ian McColl kindly made me a duplicate to replace the missing ball.

It's worth pointing out that the plugs in the end of this unnamed set of cuffs have no stamping, peining or letter marking of any description nor do the plugs appear to be pinned.

I don't know if this can aid in identification at all.
