I am ready to put some cuffs on EBAY, and I have quite a few, from Tower DBL LOCK to H & R, to S&W 94's, 938, 926, to junk. You get the idea. Should I put them up all at once, or just a few at a time that would appeal to diff collectors. This may sound like a stupid question to you experts, but remember these were my brother's, and I knew nothing about all this until a few months ago. I would appreciate your input...and

NO Michael I am not going to just send them all to you lol

Sell them one at a time.

Make sure you post a good picture. Several picture are even better if the cuff is older.

If you put up a rare cuff someone may try to get you to sell it to them off eBay. Don't do that, because you will always make more money selling it as an auction.

Good luck

I agree with Joe on all counts, but I read your question a little differently. Definitely list each cuff separately, but it makes little difference if you sell 10 cuffs on the same day or wait til one cuff is sold before listing another. The small advantage to listing several cuffs on the same day is that you can offer discounted shipping for someone who buys several cuffs.

Sorry if I confused you on the wording, I will list each seperately. I just ment should I put a few up, wait til they end, then put a few more up. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

One more suggestion. Note all markings on the cuff and post good, clear pictures. It might cost a little more, but it is worth the added cost to have multiple, detailed pictures. If there is a problem with the cuff be sure to mention it. Show the key if there is one.

Here's what I know from my experiences selling on Ebay.

1) List them all on Sunday night, 7PM EST.

2) Have them all end at the same time. This way bidders will have to bid earlier and more bids will be placed. If you string them out, you'll only get the snipers at the end for each auction. If a bidder wants more than one set of cuffs, he/she will have to bid earlier, unless they have a sniping program or have 10 windows opened.

3) When it comes to collectors, they are notoriously cheap with postage. They'll blow hundreds/thousands on their item, but yip about spending $10.00 on postage. By selling multiples on the same day, you can appease some of these puppies by sending multiple items in one shipment.

4) Don't shut down the auction for a private offer.

Good Luck,
Kevin

Ending the auctions at the exact same time is a big mistake. The advantage goes to the bidders, like Kevin. Staggering the endings a few minutes apart will benefit the seller with last second snipe bids. I bid on many different items, including handcuffs, and the big money handcuff buyers always snipe. I'm not sure why, because I don't see it in other areas that I bid. I've seen handcuffs go from $ 5.00 to $ 2800.00 in the last 10 seconds.

Mousi,

If you re-read the first line, you'll see I mentioned as a seller. Not as you state, a bidder. If the sniper/s see multiple bids toward the end, it works to their(sniper's)disadvantage money wise. The sniper/s will question their original bids they would have placed and will go higher after seeing the activity before hand. You know yourself that you have amped-up your bid right before the snipe once seeing previous activity.

I sold some cuffs from my collection a couple years ago
and I felt comfortable selling two or three at a time and
spacing them apart by 15 minutes to half an hour. Always show the
best pictures you can of the cuffs with original or working key.

good luck.

Glad you're happy. That's the way an auction should end.

I'm just throwing my experience in from 10 years on Ebay and 5-10 thousand transactions.

If you want to get the maximum amount of bucks for your cuffs, when listing upon eBay, here’s some items for you to mix and match on what you do in your description of the items:

1. They were found in a barn.

2. Your brother bought them from an antiques dealer who got them from the guy who found them in the barn.

3. The barn is very old and is located in a place where either (a) they used to have slaves or (b) John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Bonnie & Clyde or the Dalton Gang once hid out.

4. You’ve shown them to a retired cop and he’s told you they are very old.

5. They’re just like a similar item on eBay that sold for $3,828.00 just last year.

6. Rare items of this sort are in famous handcuff collections.

7. If you look closely, and the lighting is correct, you can see an image of Jesus in the nickel plating.

Becky, just list the things and (1) use the word "handcuffs" in your description so they'll be found and (2) have the auction end just a while after suppertime when the bidders have had a little too much to drink.

I prefer to spread the auction out over the course of a week or 10 days.
Say you have 3 nice H and R Super Cuffs to sell. If they were to end at the same time or close to the same time, a buyer who is interested in one of them would have to bid on all three in hopes of winning one. His or her bid would not be very high as he or she would not want to risk buying all three or even two of them. If they were spread out over a period of time, they would place a nice bid on the first one and if unsuccessful, place a bid on the second one. Another try would result if the second one was lost. This gives them time to plan their strategy and insure a win. If all three goes at the same time, it would be too chaotic.

I also give the winners a few days after the end of the last item to pay. This allows them to have all of their won items to be shipped together for the best postage fees.

If a large collection was to be auctioned off, I would sell it of over the course of a few months. If a winner bought 5 or 6 items from you, he or she may not have enough money left over to bid or try to win any other items if sold together. If there were more quality items for sale during the next month or two, the bidder may have had the chance to receive another paycheck or somehow obtain more money and is more likely to bid aggressively.

Just my opinion.

Becky,
How about giving us a heads up here on the forum when you do put them up on ebay. I don't have that much free time to constantly go scouring ebay and stay awake at the same time.

These should be labeled accordingly as “Fatima Fetters”.

HI,
Joe Lauer and Stan have excellent points. Also, trust Kevin's
opinion! He really knows his stuff. I'd bid on numerous items
of his, and I do end up bidding earlier, have gotten into bidding wars, and everything he says makes good sense. So, to sum up, clear good photos, good description, listing one, several, or all. Kevin's advice about starting them Sun. night
is very good. Best of luck to you. John

John,

Thanks. I didn't want to get into what to do with a large collection, selling at an auction house, etc., as there are many more options to cover.

Hope you are well.....Kevin

Sunday night is OK if you have something that everyone is sure to want.

If you are trying to sell a nice but common pair of Peerless or
Towers that everyone already has several of and there are say 25
other good handcuff auctions ending at around the same time as yours
you may be dissapointed with your ending price especially if you
list real late. "after the money is gone"..

Sometimes there is no such thing as common on Ebay. When new blood comes in, it catches all thr regulars off guard. They will be the ones adjusting prices upward, while the geezers say "What the hell just happened?".

Stick with Sunday night. But with Becky not resonding anymore, this may be a moot point.

I've read and appreciate everyone's input. It just took me awhile to get off the couch (I'm headed right back there to watch the rest of the hockey game).

I decided to try and play like I was still 22 years old last night.....
This morning I remembered I havent been in 22 in over 20 years!!

And I will let you know when I put them up on EBAY.

Thanks again for all your help.
