The top item is a Irish 8 from the Radner Houdini auction. The top cuff is a very nice looking Carberry. A rather frayed copy of Houdini's Handcuff Secrets book sold for $620.

"which cuff doesn't fit in here"... As Guenter that GDR cuff really amuses me. I checked the original auction to see if it says the cuff was houdini-owned or something, but nothing special there:

Same applies to the Winchester cuff for $127.00.
They are all over the internet for $ 20.00 to $ 25.00.

HI !! ALL ::: for the most part you folks are right, but least ye forget that many times people that pay those rediculious prices are NOT restraint collectors.... they may be buying that one single item to go with what ever collection or purpose that THEY have....BUT even YOU -- & don't lie to yourself have at least once paid a HIGH HIGH price for something that you later found out was only worth a dime !! RIGHT !! oh ya !!!! speaking of the GDR cuff... heck man, when they 1st came out here in the states, i & others paid well over $200. for them & well over $300. for the cable leg iron.... and i WAS RESELLING THEM AT A HIGHER PRICE to other collectors..... MAYBE YOU !!! so knock some of the buyers, but don't judge to harshly...... i have always been critised for my high prices, but i paid for them... what am i suppose to lose money on them.... some of you think so.....JOE -- BTW just the CUMMINGS cuff sold & NOT the CARBERRY ...is this correct ???? joe

Joe,
You are right; I paid $150 for a GDR at the Pomona Gun Show in LA in 1992. At that time I hadn't seen them before and believed them to be very rare and exotic. The funny thing is that I bought them from Jim Main whose collection was auctioned last year.

Hi Joe (Tanner),

you are right. Collectors sometimes make the mistake of paying much too much, when a model appears the FIRST time. But the GDR as well as the Winchester are on the market for years now. If these pieces were not bought by collectors, I am really wondering who bought them and why for "adult games" e.g. you can get much cheaper pieces.

Once again the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it. Look at the Gale finger cuffs. 3 auctions - $162 / $103 / $66 - a fair price spread for auctions that close together with all of the cuffs in roughly the same condition and serial numbers all in the 56xx's. So did I get a good deal on the $103 set? (I thought so.)

The winchesters have been selling way too high on e-bay for a long time. But DHC is almost out of stock on these and as far as I can find there are only 2 sites on the internet that still have them for sale. Most of these are being sold by the same person under different seller names (look at the identical listings). I just bought the rest of the Winchester restraints. I've never seen any of them listed on e-bay. Maybe I should list some of those on e-bay as "extremely rare" and I can make enough profit to pay for the towers detective cuffs. (I can always buy another set before they're out of stock.)

If I re-list these as "Smith & Wesson Model 94 High Security Version 1 Restricted Key Handcuffs" I'd be willing to bet that I could get a better price for them.

I remember the excitement when you came up with the first copies of the GDR cuffs. They were really considered exotic at the time.

And as for the Carberry. I am going only by the picture. The dealer called it a Cummings, but his picture is definitely the rare model, the Carberry. I think someone got a bargain.

1) Can you add links to the above?

I could but it would be a lot more work. I consider the real value of these listings to be archival. The links would not work after 90 days. It would be nice to have the links, but it is not going to happen. I have started entering the data from 2007 into a speadsheet. But like all my other projects I am behind on that one as well.

2) Are these the final prices? I seem to remember that some didn't sell.

The prices listed are the final prices. I do not include items that did not sell. I also do not include frauds, reproductions and custom cuffs made for the fetish market.

I hate to say Joe needs new glasses, but in the interest of avoiding confusion in the future,the top right picture and the cuff that sold for $605.98 is a CUMMING. The CARBERRY uses a barrel key and does not have the little lever arms at the base of the lock case.
Top picture below is the CUMMING, and the bottom picture is the CARBERRY.

I thought one of the pictures showed the Carberry also.

In fact, I messaged the seller to confirm this.

(look at the bottom of the auctions page).

For some reason the cuff shown in the open position looked at first glance like
the carberry as the side grips kinda blend into the picture and my eyes must mainly
look to the right side of an item as the left side of the handcuff is clearly a cumming.

Oh well, on to the next find..

Now, now, don't be too hard on old Joe. Yes, it's true that he's an abrasive and obnnoxious loudmouth, but that's just the way he is. Yes, he used to think that he had a monopoly on handcuff information, just because he was the son-in-law of somebody who had actually accomplished something in life, and who really knew about handcuffs. I don't know if Joe ever had a real job, after he was fired form the Post Office for stealing stamps. Tannner has been spending his life trying to pretend that he is still a player, but everybody knows that he's just an old joke. His brusque manner is just an attempt to compensate for his knowledge that he has been completely eclipsed by younger and smarter collectors. Sooner or later he'll fade away. So, while he's still with us, give the senile fool a break.

At least he never got his paws on the David Wienbaum collection and it went to someone who just didn't sell if off for the money...
