older peerless age ?

I have my granddads peerless handcuffs, they are serial 34394, how old are they ?
they say "Mass" after springfield, and they take a very small key, I do not have a key to fit them, there is no post in the key hole.

thay cannot tell any before serial #31000, so yours they will.

Do you have these keys available or is there a source for them, this is what appears to be needed.

Handcuff Warehouse sells a modern key that will open the cuff, but does not look like the original. It is about $ 7.00 at

The Cannon key is very nice, a bit more expensive ($16.50 total), but nice none the less. Here is a photo so you can compare them:



On the left is an original Peerless key, in the middle is a Cannon replacement key, and on the right is a pen-style key similar to the one that Discount Handcuff Warehouse carries (the one in the photo is the hollow tipped version).

If you want the key just to open the cuffs, take the cheaper of the two, but if you want to display them.....spring for the Cannon key. A third option is to ask some people here if they have an original for sale; I have obtained some very nice original keys from some of the forum members. Good luck!

You might also try calling or visiting some local locksmith shops.
I found one about 1/2 mile from home that had some of these for $5 each..
they were a little tobacco stained from hanging on the rack for who knows
how many years but they cleaned up nicely.

I avoid the old TAYLOR brand keys as they break easily..

print a picture of the key to show the locksmith what you are talking about.

I have had problems with the Taylor key blanks as well and I believe that to be because the keys are sintered steel. Nowadays sintered technology has improved a bit but I much prefer old fashioned steel. It costs more but you do have a better product in the end if made correctly.
