according to MATTHEW G. FORTE 3 categories were made

the earliest- stamped "PAT PEND."----13,000 TO 15,000 made

the 2nd-- stamped with one patent # and "OTHER PAT.PEND."----ABOUT 45,000 made

the 3rd---stamped with two patent #'s ---about 100,000 made

after ARGUS Manufacturing ceased production JAY-PEE re-introduced them less then 10,000 made

i think when JAY-PEE took over that is when TAIWAN production started because i have the 2nd & 3rd and thay are both marked CHICAGO ILL U.S.A.
when did this happen ?? i don't know?

There are several Iron Claw models that Forte did not account for. The very earliest model has an exposed ratchet. Then a few were made with a sheet metal piece covering the ratchet. At the ned of production by Argus Mfg., Jay pee bought the rights to them, and these are marked "ARGUS - JAY PEE
NEW YORK NY USA. It has both patent numbers, and serial numbers started over again. The parts are identical to Argus Mfg. parts. These were made about 30 or more years ago. The latest version is the one you saw on ebay, which is marked JAY-PEE TAIWAN. The shape of the body is somewhat different. These were sold until very recently, and might still be available.

The picture i put up is the newer one that stan is refering to with a square case and it has all the same pat numbers and new york NY USA on the back like the one on ebay.
