As all who watch who has won what (on Ebay) will know, I won a set of Rankin cuffs recently. The cuffs came without a key, so I thought I would research the key so I could make one. I noticed a thread on here asking the pitch of the screw thread needed for a Rankin key, so for all who have Rankin cuffs without a key, I want to pass on this.......
I tried a Hiatt Darby Leg-Iron key & found that it is the correct size, perfect thread pitch & opens the cuffs in an instant.
Just thought I would let you guys know.

for most RANKIN etc cuffs the key thread pitch is 1/4X20... i know that i have not kept current with the newer HIATT cuffs & keys for the DARBIES, but there is no way that an old HIATT leg iron key will fit into the keyway of a RANKIN cuff....unless you grind down the outside of the key & half the time that doesn't work as the key has to be made so thin that it cracks..... heck a HIATT handcuff key barely fits over the key post & that is what i use to do... i would re-thread the HIATT HAND cuff key... i am almost certain that the HIATT leg iron key is NOT the same thread pitch as the RANKIN as i tried that many many years ago & it did NOT work.... althou, IF you could get the diamameter of the key to fit in, you may be able to make your own RE-THREAD job by turning the key clockwise - then back the key off a turn or two & repeating this motion several times.....again, as i said i have not kept current with whatever HIATT cuff keys are today, so maybe they can be.... joe
