Taking Care of and Cleaning Handcuffs.

i'm possibly in the Process of Buying a Old Handcuff Collection. some of them are slightly rusty meaning surface rust. i know one of them is a set of Crockett and Kelly and the other one is. that the F.B.I. enjoyed and it took a Diffrent Key for it. i beleive they quit making it in 1951. Sorry But don't know the name on the second one Posted. Any Advice Please Don,

The two cuffs your describe are on the opposite ends of quality.

The Crockett and Kelly cuffs are not high quality cuffs. They rust very easily and often found in very poor condition. The mechanism never works very well. I don't think you can really do much with them.

On the other hand the other cuffs you refer to are Harrington and Richardson Super handcuffs. They are one of the highest quatily cuffs ever made. A good scrubbing with soap and water, perhaps a strong brushing will put them into good condition. Of course if the surface plating is scratched you will have to live with that, but the cuffs should work just fine.

Joe the C&K Cuffs were not to Rusty when i last seen them but were only very light surface rust. the H&R Handcuffs looked in decent Shape. now all i have to do is find out how much the person wants. Don,

Don, with the pair of C&K I have it also had light rust in two spots. I used the wire brush attachment on my rotary tool and gave the rust a quick once over on the lowest setting my tool had.

Then used the polish attachment with out any chemicals I buffed it out. The cuff looks natural once again and there is no sign of rust or the work on it.

Since I do not clean cuffs consistantly you may want to listen to others before myself, but it worked for me.
