Patent Numbered Darbies

Hi Joe,

I was wondering if you, or anyone else on this forum, could help with identifying these darbies ?

They have a patent number on the swivel, PAT20051 ( although the 5 could be a 9 )
The only other markings are the number 107 stamped on each cuff.
I think the actual cuffs resemble Hiatt's more than any other darby in my collection, in respect to their general shape and hinge profile.

I think the patent number probably refers to the swivel itself, rather than the cuffs.
The swivel is cast, and longer than usual.
I'm certain that this swivel is the original one, due to the forged conecting links being perfectly intact.

Does anyone else have darbies like these ?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Justin - don't think I've ever seen Darbies with markings on the swivel like that, but it's certainly not a UK or US patent number. In fact I doubt it's a patent number at all, more likely to be a PATTERN number that might give a clue as to the manufacturer, but unfortunately I don't have any ideas on that.

I have not seen one of these. And I have quite a few Darbies. The swivel does look a bit longer than normal. Curious

Mike, your idea that it may be a pattern number is a good one, and certainly something I had not thought of.

As these were purchased in Australia, maybe they were actually made over here.
If this is the case, it would explain why others have not turned up in the U.S. and England.
