Cuff Question

Was just given a pair of Crockette /Kelly cuffs, Im Understand that they were issued by the Dept of Defense .
What are there age & what would they sell for these days.

they were issued FOR the DEPT of defense in the mid 80's....that is 1980's !! made in COLORADO or at least that is where CROCKETT was last & where i ordered them from....

Don't feel bad about what you've got. They might be worth something, someday, perhaps.

When produced, they were a piece of garbage, generally so rusted up by the time they got to the Military Police in the field, they were virtually unusable, unless the MP was really mad and wanted to infect the arrestee with severe rust poisioning.

If you have a "new in the box," pristine set, still all covered with Cosmoline, leave them that way. All the rest got tossed years ago, and you may be one of the last few people to have on of those pieces of ****

After all, in the collecting world, rarity does mean something.

That's why I'm hanging on to my Sirchie cuffs, from 20 years or so before. True, another article of trash, but how many collectors actually have a set? All new in the box and everything?

Just keep on looking on the bright side and be happy with what you've got. You never can tell.

If you're happy with them, that's what counts.

I have seen C&K fetch pretty good money on eBay before.....especially in mint/mintish condition. Didn't a pair go for an outrageous amount of money on eBay last year???? I think I remember a discussion about that here on the forum.

It is nice to have at least one pair in your collection for variety, if no other reason.....I would hold on to them. =)

Not everyone thinks they're a piece of ****. I have all three versions in my collection (and the boxed sirchies too). Wipe them down once or twice a year with a silicon gun cloth and they don't seem to have a rust problem. It's interesting to note that it's the COWBOY collectors who are paying the high prices for these on e-bay (C&K was primarily a horse tack maker). Barring the old "These belonged to a sherriff out west in 1930 and he only used them to lock up drunks on saturday night" story, the ones listed under the western memorabilia heading seem to sell for about 4 times what the ones listed under the police memorabilia heading do.
