CRAIG, the tower leg irons by balco do not have the normal balco chain,the balco chain is round links without waffeling and thay don't have an alonggated link at the ends,so if thay or not marked balco,thay are probably tower unmarked older pre 1930's but not as expensiveas balco 1950's

I have corrected the Tower Legirons on my site. They are Tower Double Locking Legirons from 1880's.

The "Bean Cobb Legiron" - looks nice but, not the original chain? Anyone?

Hi Monica,

The chain is correct.

For an H&R Bean Improved leg iron.

All is good with it.

Thanks, Steve. "Improved" doesn't mean modified? All of the examples I have seen of the BC legiron had a chain like this:

I believe you and STEVE are both correct,according to MATTHEW G. FORTE'S book american police equipment (page 193) E.D. BEAN invented but never mfg. any of his equip. they were made by existing CO's. like J.P. LOVELL ARMS & IVER JOHNSON SPORTING GOODS. BEAN'S improved handcuffs, patented by LYMAN COBB in 1899, were mfg. and sold by HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. as late as 1940.

i own a set of these and the chain is like CRAIG'S other then mine have 20 link's vs his 15 thay are also stamped on the reverse side H & R ARMS CO. WORCHESTER,MASS on both irons and MADE IN U.S.A. on the front of one iron only

my thoughts are that your's are probably IVER'S OR LOVELL'S

the original key's with mine are grovved ,is your's?
also please advise on the marking's,thanks
