Rankin cuffs

Would anybody be able to tell me about a set of handcuffs passed down through family. They are printed with the words "A. RANKIN PATENT PHILA. Dec. 10th 1861" Family ties go back to Philadelphia, but also St. Louis & Slave trade - specifically involving Dred Scott. Any insite as to what we have or value would be appreciated. Excellent condition (as far as I can tell), with key. Thanks!

The cuffs you have are refered to as the "Delastasius" cuff......in good working order, it is worth upwards to around $1,000.00 or more. The last one I saw on eBay sold for about 1,500.00 if memory serves. However, I am no expert in the field of Rankin handcuffs so anyone who is would be more than welcome to add to this or correct me if I am off base.

Also, the history of the Rankin/Delastasius patents has been discussed here on the forum a few times.....do a search to find the threads and you will have a wealth of info about the manufacturer, the patents, and all kinds of useful/useless (depending on how you look at it) facts. Very nice cuffs.....thanks for sharing your photos with us.
