The Baker Belt on the Magic Cafe is one made by Steve Baker for an escape, and is different than the Police and Prison restraint.

There might be a Hiatt belt on the Cafe forum, but the only thing I can find is the Steve Baker belt and there is no picture. url for cafe is

Stan: there is no "English Baker-Style Transport Belt" there.....just the Steve Baker challenge belt that Curtis Eugene Lovell II is selling.

BTW, for those of you who do not know, Lovell is the 120 pound guy that took a couple of lessons from Steve Baker and is now chasing down David Blaine trying to challenge him to an escape contest. No need to say it, it has already been said......he must specialize in "Comedy Magic"!!!! (shaking my head and laughing). LOL!

Hi David,

I would say that your body belt was supplied by Hiatt's of Birmingham. The keys are marked Hiatt and the key shape, in my opinion indicate production between 1950's to early 1970's. A clearer picture of the cuffs would be helpful.

In British prisons body belts are still used to restrain prisoner who are likely to harm themselves or other.

Yours has a pouch which contain the keys and a spanner used to tighten the nuts and bolts which hold the cuffs onto the D shackles.

They are made to last so I don't think that there was a high turnover of them which makes them more difficult to come by.

FYI I just saw Curtis Lovell on Manswers on Spike TV. They had segment on how to get out of handcuffs.

The "British Made" mark was introduced in the 1930's however I would still date this to the 1950's to early 70's based on the key shape and now the shape of the Hiatt stamp on the cuffs.
