Hiatt Bar Handcuff

I was fortunate to be able to purchase the Hiatt bar handcuff from Steve Santini. This is a very interesting handcuff. I believe it is a very early Hiatt product meaning that it is about 190 years old.

This is the second of two known examples. The earlier one was sold by Michael Griffin early last year. The two cuffs are essentially identical. The cuff is marked HIATT and HARD. The HIATT mark appears on the bow to the southwest of the key hole. The HARD mark is on the bow to the southeast of the key hole. The marking are faint, but if you look closely in the pictures you can make out the outlines of both marks.

The key and lock are warded. If you look at the pictures you can see the circular wards in the key hole. The spring action is very smooth and the cuff still operates nicely.

I now consider this cuff to be one of the very top items in my collection.

I would like to thank Steve for giving me the opportunity to acquire this rare cuff. I have purchased several rare items from Steve and I have always been pleased with what he sends me. I am amazed with his ability to find these rare items. Thanks Steve! Keep on hunting.

I am very pleased that this cuff was able to find a suitable home in a collection such as yours which is filled with a number of rare items.

I have been fortunate that in my travels and work as an escape artist that I have made contact with interesting people around the world that occassionally happen to turn up rare items such as this and offer them to me.
