TCH Limited

Hi,

I think this should be seperated from the Hiatts 1980 thrad

But unknown42 ist right, I can tell a little more about TCH, we've been discussing this new company for the last month already. The first models got shipped last week, in this posting you'll find a few pictures (real ones, not stock) of the TCH 830 (equals Hiatts 2054) and it's nice box:

TCH is not only employing/based on ex-Hiatt workers, it's even in the same Location and has the same address! And as you can see, the cuffs are really, really similar. The only one different so far is the 840 Rigid (Speedcuff) which has a different plastic cover.

TCH seems to stand for Total Control Handcuffs BTW. At least that's what their products are called.

yes, of course the line from the Hiatt 1980 pattern to THC (UK) Limited was a little bit knotty.

More or less, it was meant as a follow-up to Josefs question about the whereabouts of the technical drawings. In this way the existence of TCH (UK) Limited may prove that the historic production facility wasnt totally dismantled and that also some of the century old records may have survived in Britain.

It is nice to know that the Hiatt factory still lives. I ordered one of the new TCH cuffs a few days ago, but it has not yet arrived. There is a standing buy it now offer on eBay UK. Item number: 350118675320 £35.25 plus postage

Wow! This raises alot more questions than are answered...
Seems Armour Holdings didn't pack up the equipment and ship it off somewhere else or continue making the cuffs there. Are they going to do something like ASP when they bought out American Handcuff Co.? From the pictures, it is clear they are identical to the Hiatts and was done on the same equipment that made the original Hiatts. Seems they have not been NIJ approved but that should be a simple fix.

I don't speak German, but thanks Martin for the link to those excellent pics. It's also interesting to see that the TCH cuffs feature Hiatt's previously "unique" feature of backloading!
By the way, I can't be sure from the pics whether it's a serial number or a model number on the cuff - are they individually serially numbered?

yes, I posted this mainly for the pictures - the text doesn't tell much which hasn't been posted here before.

It's not so surprising they have backloading as the bow and the ratchets simply are identical in every detail to the Hiatt version. Possibly all the Hiatt patents except for the one on the plastic cover are expired in the meantime? BTW: it's not so unique, some Korean cuffs also have a very similar backloading. I expect they did care even less about european patents...

Regarding the serial numbers: yes, they are numbered exactly like Hiatts, the numbers I have seeen are around 004000, those were just edited out of the pictures. What's new on the TCHs is that the Model number (TC840 in this case) is stamped in slightly larger letters on the other bow.

Thanks for that information, Martin. So far as the backloading feature is concerned I appreciate that the facility has been copied by some of the overseas manufacturers and that's why I put the word "unique" in quotes as it's what Hiatt used to claim in some of their advertising literature.

There's been speculation here in the UK as to what cuffs our cops will be issued with following the demise of Hiatt - perhaps we now know the answer?

Hiatts remains British, now a subsidiary of London-based BAE Systems, which acquired Jacksonville, Florida-based Armor Holdings in 2007. Armor Holdings acquired Hiatts in 2006.
