Opening Clejuso without keys....

Hi,

Anybody heart it is possible to open the Clejuso models 11, 12, 12R and 19R without key, if the double lock is not activated.
Just push the bow to tighten the cuffs and press the double lock button at the point it is nearly to the next closing position.
The double lock will hold the slots in this position and it is possible to open the cuffs.

Considering I found this out years ago and wrote an article on how to do it for Ian McColl's Escapist Newsletter.

BTW, you have left out one important part I also discovered.

It CAN be done even if the cuffs are double locked.

Just rap the double lock open.

You may want to add that to your vid.

Oh yeah, the new Clejuso 11 and 12's will not open this way.

Hi,

this is quite well known in the handcuff community, but it was still possible to surprise a few escape artists with it on last cannon's convention. They thought it's a modified cuff for escape art and were quite surprised to hear that it's an unmodified original

But as I already wrote in the Clejuso 9 thread, newer models are fixed. The ratchet part ist beveled at one side so the double-lock part will not hold it down but press it up. You can tell the difference by the color, the old part is black the newer one more brownish-metal-colored. There's neither a definitive model nor a definitive date from which on this is fixed though - I even have a Clejuso 19R which has the fixed part in only one side, and I was able to buy a new cuff with the old part this year.

But most cuffs shipped today seem to have the fix. If you're unsure if your cuff is affected or you're doing the trick wrong: just press down the ratchet with a screwdriver as deep as possible and then press the double lock. With the modified part it will push the ratchet up.

The No. 9 can't be opened this way, but not because it has the modified ratchet (it has three) but because the double lock usually will not hold all 3 down.

@Steve: rapping clejusos open is a technique known for many many years (it's much harder to do on the Nr. 9 BTW.). But of course combining the two methods really makes the whole trick...

To set the record straight, not all escapes were first discovered by Steve Santini. I have it on good authority that the first escape was discovered by Mr. Escape Steve Baker. He did an underwater escape over the side of Noah's Ark during a 40 day & 40 night down pour back in the day.
