Hi Ron, it's what is referred to as an Indian made cuff. Might be 100 years might be last year.

The joint where the eights come together in the middle, looks to be electrically welded. That would indicate new manufacture to me. I don't have the photo up (hate this board's software) but I bet the cuffs are covered with file marks. That also indicates modern manufacture in these. On blacksmith forged stuff, the heat tends to wash out the file marks.

These things typically retail for twenty bucks.

One of the big retailers, Atlanta Cutlery I believe, carries the run of the mill Indian repro Darbies for about twenty five without the eBay hype.

These are in fact East Indian junk that started showing up on eBay over the last two years. They are no better in quality than the adjustable and non-adjustable Darby chain cuffs that are all over the place right now. I have seen these go for as little as $10.00 on eBay......sorry, no treasure found with this pair. =(

I agree with thought that they are new, however, something looks different. Looking at the hinge area, I don't remember seeing a "cover" over the hinge pin on any of the other cuffs. Of course I don't bother to look at most of these that are listed on eBay.

I'm not seeing the "cover" you refer to. The hinge pin appears to be visible on the surface. I think what you are seeing, is a quirk of the somewhat sloppy forging. It's hard to tell from that photo.

It is a poor picture, but when you blowup the area it just looked different than others I have seen. You may be correct that it is just sloppy work--most of their work is sloppy. I saved the picture to the desktop and with Microsoft Office Picture Manager you can make an enlargement with fair quality. It just looked different than others I have seen. Still Junk however.

Sorry about the name error. The cuffs posted are not mine. There is another ebay listing for the same type of cuff. I guess another generation is taking up the trade. The workmanship is similar to the one listed here.

There is also a buy it now for $299. It is the bent bolt link type. Hope anyone who buys it they know what they are getting.
