#2It is a sad but steadfast fact that as long as there are violent criminals out there there will always be a need for restraints to suit any range of confinement situations and purposes.
Hence the close confinement combos, etc.
And, as long as there are collectors of ANYTHING, there will always be suppliers eager to meet their needs as well.
As for "dictatorships" and "regimes", it is usually not the small time handcuff distributor who fills thier orders but instead either big name restraint makers selling in bulk or they have thier own people make restraints for them.
This comes to mind; at Gitmo, S&W restraints have been used and even Hiatt. While the institution is for the confinement of suspected "terrorists", the particular use of the restraints employed there could very well lead one to honestly say they have often been used to violate human rights.
And this also comes to mind; following the invasion of Iraq, soldiers found that Uday Hussien, son of Saddam, had amassed quite the collection of replica antique torture devices which he used to "entertain" various political prisoners with.
Did Uday order these from a known supplier?
No.
His gibbets, racks, and even a replica Iron Maiden were all constructed locally by people either hired, or threatened, to create them.
There will always be Police and Correctional officers, there will alaways be collectors and BDSM practitioners, and there will always be real sadists and dictators who care not for human rights or the abuse of same.
Because of all these people wanting diverse restraints,diverse restraints will always be available.
If one cannot buy it, one will have it made.
The Media going after Hiatt or even a small handcuff distributor will never change this.
Sad or proper, capitalism or fasicm, this is a fact and always will be.
Restraints have been here for thousands of years in many myriad forms and there are not going anywhere anytime soon.

#3It's not very often I agree with Steve Santini but in general I agree with him on this. I think Amnesty International UK needs to pull there heads out of there asses. All they have managed to do is hurt business in the USA and Europe and hand business to the asians. In my not so humble opinion they are hurting the economies in there own back yard. If these people really want it, they will get it one way or another. The US Dept of Commerce has these laws hurting us at home and making look like we are doing something about it. I am not fooled and I think the laws need to be changed before we continue to lose more business to overseas.
