New Smith and Wesson M&P Handcuffs

I see that S&W is advertising a new pair of handcuff called the M&P Level Lock. I have seen a picture of them and there is an external double locking mechanism that is used similar to the ill fated Hiatts. Does anyone have any intel on these new cuffs and when they will be avaiable.

I never heared the term M&P level lock in this context, but over a year ago this Patent was granted to S&W:

it shows a new double locking mechanism in two variations which doesn't need a key to activate.

One question that arises is of course, is this new mechanism vulnerable in the Clejuso way. From the patent it's difficult to judge, in principle it might be as you can push the double lock slider against the locking bar. But this part looks identical to what we have in current M-100 cuffs and there you can't really hold down the ratchet with the double lock part (too little friction, corner too round, ...) so I expect it also won't be possible with this new lever.

Where did you see pictures of the new cuff? Does it look like the one in the patent?

S&W has been talking about this for about 2 years, but they have not announced a release date. I have not seen a picture. Maybe they will have more information at the "Shot" show mid January.

The picture I saw is the same as the patent information that is listed. I saw a picture of the cuffs from a Galls brochure and just ordered a set from them. It shows that delivery is back ordered until Feb 1st which would put it after Shot Show which I will be at. If you go to Galls.com and under the key word or item number search you put in 9T0RS223 it will bring you to the cuffs and a picture.

But since this thread has been resurrected. I would like to know what are the ill-fated Hiatts that were spoken about in the first post? Those ones with the protruding double locking pin that one could press with the finger and accidentally engage in the case? Or something else I am unaware of?

I believe they are referring to the Hiatt Model 2020.

I got accepted to the police academy in Sept. 09 and bought these for class.  They just were released and were new to the uniform store.
The 9 month class was interesting as we had 2 cadets that had Peerless cuffs that failed while we were having 'handcuff days".
We would go out to my truck and I would have to shim them open.

On testing day, 2 instructors would watch everybody's "arrest procedure and grade them. Pass or fail.
When it was my turn, I "arrested" my partner and double locked my M&P cuffs after inserting my finger to make sure they were not on too tight.
Both instructors did not see me get my keys off my belt to double lock and told me that I failed because of it.  I was allowed a make up test another day.

I told them to inspect my "prisoner" and they did.  They did and were puzzled how he was double locked.  I showed them the lever which they never seen before and gave me the pass.
"Only you would have these weird handcuffs" one of them said.
