Leg Irons from Taiwan

I just received the following message from a Spanish collector who asks about some interesting Taiwanese legirons. Joe

I have a quite small collection of restraints at the moment but I intend to broaden it with new pieces.

Some time ago I found a company in Taiwán that produces the shackles that you may see in the attached pictures.

The company is Shyh Sing Enterprise co, LTD and the models are SH-905-2 (Darby Style) and SH-905-5.



The Darby style shackles are really heavy and sturdy. They weight about 2400g.

I have recently bought from them another interesting piece of restraint, the model SH-905-5, see pictures attached. They are also quite sturdy and weight 1000g. you can see a comparison with an standard Peerless leg iron.




The problem with the Darby style shackles is that they don´t have stock of them and they will not put them back in production unless they get an order of at least 100 units. Of course I cannot order 100 units but if people know about this particular model of shackles and get interested, perhaps the manufacturer may consider to produce a small batch.

Perhaps if people on the Forum show interest, the manufacturer may produce a small batch.

they do look nice, but it looks to me like they took a set of HIATTS - knocked the pins out & put on a bow of their making - repined etc.... the cylinder looks like a HIATT & is a somewhat different coloration.....if this is the case, i don't blame them for not wanting to make them unless they get a sizeable order..... joe

Hello, I am the Spanish collector that made the enquire.

The only person I know that owns a set of such Darby style leg irons also has a website called "Cuffman´s Handcuff Collection". If you wish I think he may give you information about them.

To the best of my Knowledge, the shackles are entirely made of nickel plated low grade steel and weigh some 2400g.

I cannot tell the price because they told me from the first time that the shackles were unavailable, even when they can be seen in their catalog.

It seems that they are only willing to put them back in production if they get an order of at least 100 units. I thougt that if people show interest and ask them about this particular item they may feel encouraged to produce a small batch.

The other model (Peerless style) SH-905-5 is still available and I bought recently one unit from them that I got a few days ago.
The shackles are very well made and finished and as you can see they look really nice.
They cost me (price including postage to Spain from Taiwán 67 US dollars) which I think is quite reasonable.

Howard offered these leg irons a couple of years ago. I don't remember how much I paid for them but they were rather expensive.

Yep, I've got a pair of the Darby-type legirons in my collection and yep, mine also came from Howard in Hong Kong. There's no way they were made by Hiatt, but they are good quality - a great addition to any collection.

The idea of this is not that people interested wait for something to happen.
I have enquired about these leg irons a lot of times and I can not be always annoying the manufacturer.

If you read properly, I gave contact data in the message above. The idea is that all people interested in a set contact the manufacturer and ask. Perhaps that way they may consider to produce a small batch. Only one person enquiring will not persuade them to put them back in production.

I truly hope everybody understand.
