Saw this on ebay in the UK. Advertised as a handcuff, but looks like 2 locks put together. Anyone know what this really is ?

It could be some kind of cuff for the medical industry.

I say this because it seems to be well padded.

It looks like there are tabs off the sides one would pull to tighten the straps.

It certainly would be good for locking up skis.

Mind you, all someone would have to do is cut the strap and you have a free pair of skis!

I think I see a spring loaded dust cover just underneath the keyway. Based on this, I would have to say that this device is designed for outdoor use!

I doubt that it is a handcuff, but it would be interesting to know what it is. I emailed the seller, and there are no markings on them, other than "open" and "Close" at the keyhole.

I saw the listing on the German ebay, and the translation doesn't help. The seller can't add any more information, and there are no markings on the item (except open and closed). Seems big and bulky for a cuff to use on a plane. On the other hand "The Hugger" is bigger and bulkier, and it was designed for use on a plane. I think they are out of business.

A great buddy of mine here in England who is fairly fluent in German has kindly translated the text for me. The seller seems definite as to their intended use ..... I make no comment on that for the time being, but merely submit what I believe to be a fair translation of the text from German to English, as follows:

"Buy here a pair of newly designed high security handcuffs of tough rubber and aliminium for flight security attendants and stewards against physically violent passengers.
Verkaufe hier ein Paar neuartige Hochsicherheits-Handschellen aus Kunststoff/Gummi und
Aluminium für Flugsicherheitsbedienstete und Stewardessen gegen handgreifliche Passagiere.
They have special cylinder enclosures and extra wide attachments to belt buckles.
Sie haben spezielle Zylinderschlösser und extra breite Laschen an den Riemen zur Befestigung eines Gurtes.
On opening and pulling the rims, press the white knob key in "open".
Zum Öffnen und Zuziehen der Riemen stellt man den Schlüssel auf "open" und
drückt den weißen Knopf seitlich der Falle.
The subject is very restricted when the key is in "closed" position (white knob applied).
In whichever situation, you find yourself threatened.
Läßt man ihn wieder los, ist der Riemen arretiert. Der Schlüssel läßt sich nur in "closed"-Stellung wieder abziehen, dann ist

In the tabs you pull to tighten the cuffs are intended to feed a seat belt buckle through.

So, you cuff the person in front, place them in their seat, feed the seatbelt through these slots, and buckle the seatbelt.

With the hands like this it would very difficult for them to work the buckle on the seatbelt.

Cool stuff.

I like the bar in the middle that seperates the cuffs. It seems to be the perfect size for a hand to fit around it so it can be used to control and lead the cuffed person.

A very well thought out design.

Strange model. I own an old emergency restraint pack from British Airways, and the cuffs seem to be standard black "Quik-cuffs" (the packed is always sealed, so it is not easy to define the model). With "bonus" : straps, fiber-reinforced tape adhesive, and several forms to complete if restraints must be used during a flight.

I suspected it is a bike lock, but could not find it. With the manufacturers name it was easy to find some pictures, which I've attached. This is what this forum is for. Thanks very much.

Hello,

this bike lock was offered on ebay Germany about four weeks ago, originally titled "MODERN HIGH-SECURITY AIRLINE HANDCUFFS Handschellen RAR" and were sold for 120 Euros (should be about 170 $). (No, I didnt bid...)

In advance I asked the seller about the origin and he answered: "Habe sie von einem Security-Stand bei einer Waffen-Messe. Der Verkäufer sagte mir dies und das diese offiziell noch nicht im Handel wären."
Short translation: "I got them from a security dealer at a weapons trade fair and they are not in trade yet."
Wondering why a dealer of bicycle locks would offer his products on a security trade fair as airline handcuffs...
The seller regurlaly offers cuffs on ebay, so this cannot be a simple mistake of a newbie.

I do really have a problem with collector "friends" who try to betray with fairy tale storys about handcuffs, try to sell scrap iron as "fully working", KUB /victor works as originals found somewhere in the house and so on.

Probably each one of us had to make these experiences allready while bidding on ebay allready...
