Unknown ? Indian Handcuffs

These cuffs appear to be made by S.S.D.Bros & Co. There is another stamp that is not as clear as the one in the photo that has the makers name again, as well as 1955, all in a diamond shape.

The Aligarh marking I have seen before on Indian manufactured padlocks, so I think they were either made in India or at least used there.

The quality of the cuffs is excellent, more in line with European or American manufacture rather than what collectors are used to seeing come out of India, so perhaps they were made elsewhere and imported to India.

They are very heavy and have very strong ratchets, with 15 teeth on the bow and 2 on the pawl.

Has anyone seen cuffs like these before, or know any more information about them ?

This company made whistles for police and the railroad about WWII. I've never seen handcuffs with this maker's mark. The cuffs appear to date about the same time.

You are right Stan, after doing a search on Google I found a whistle with this makers mark and also an old button.
