Triple lock your Smith & Wesson handcuffs with a plastic strip

Handcuff tip:

By inserting a wide plastic strip (0.5 mm) in the double lock slot after they have been double locked, you can triple lock your Smith & Wesson handcuffs (and other handcuffs and leg irons using a slot to double lock). The plastic strip is simply threaded through the double-locking slot and tightened. This prevents the double locking mechanism to be released - even if you have access to the key.

Sounds like a good way to jam them when the plastic breaks, and then have to have them sawn off.

When you insert a 0.5 cm wide nylon cable tie (same type as them used as disposable handcuffs) through the double locking slot and tighten and lock it into place, it would not be possible to unlock the double lock, although if you have access to the key. You may cut off the remaining end of the cable tie afterwards. The only way to escape is by removing the nylon cable tie. Removing the cable tie from the slot while cuffed would be a tough task.
