$1,600 is more than reasonable , depending how much you want to add it to your collection.
For god sake the thing is OVER a 100 yrs Old ! other models in less than prestine condition have sold for much more.

Sure the original key would be nice ,but its the cuff that were talking about
you can get a repro key from the cannons or a qualified Locksmith.

Yes I am looking for this nice model for my collection (in good condition like this one). But I have no idea about the value.
$1600 is a lot of money and I am not ready to buy above the average value.I know the value of a lot of handcuffs but not this one.

for what it is worth i am not saying to buy or not to buy - 15 years ago - i & others bought & sold BEAN GIANT cuffs for $1,200 on up to $2,000 PLUS PLUS !!.... YES, i have paid $1,500 PLUS for several B.G. cuffs back then & i sold them too.... no disrespect intended but you have been a collector long enough that by now YOU should have an idea of the value of an item.... if not - maybe you should not be a collector... when i was collecting - MOST collectors did NOT really think to much about the price of an item unless the price was REALLY REALLY OUT OF SIGHT.... TO A TRUE collector - even if the price was HIGH - we would buy the item anyway BECAUSE WE WANTED IT !!!! that is true collecting.... in my humble opinion, today there are not many true collectors.... WE all knew that just about no matter what we paid -- if we kept the item it would go UP past what we paid !!!! for the most part that WAS 125% CORRECT.... at todays values COLLECTORS should be GABBING up any nice hard to find restraint -- even common ones if the price is right.... all will go up EVENTUALLY ... joe

Look, there have been a couple Bean Giant's that have gone up on eBay over the last year. In each case the bidding went well over $1,000. (See here:http://restraintsblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Giant)

The issue with this one is no key. This can mean that the key was misplaced years ago, or... that the cuffs do not function and the key was 'lost' to avoid having to disclose this. (Note: I am not suggesting this is the case, just that an unscrupulous seller might do such a thing.) I doubt that to be the case here as I understand that they were listed once before.

Certainly there are a number of people looking to add a Bean Giant to their collection. I got one a while back and I'm counting my nickels to see it I can add this one as well. Who knows when the next one will come around. That said, there is a very limited supply and much greater demand. The winner is gauranteed to pay at least one bid higher than the person who wants it second-best.

As for average price, each of these auctions helps set that price. As for wanting to pay below-average, that went out the window the auction was posted here!!!

I agree with your post. I shall not buy B.G. without a key. I do not know if the cuffs are working or not. And there is no return accepted. I am not a gamer. At this price I want to be certain the cuffs are working perfectly well.

Anyway, I am surprise by the high value of this model today. For exemple, some years ago the french LA POLICIERE was expensive too. Now Joe about the fact if I am a collector or not have a look on my website.
I have sold perhaps less than 10 handcuffs. But I have bought more than 300 others. Every collector sells in the course of time to buy other handcuffs with the gain. I try to sell today my LYON PRESTO on eBay. For the moment there is one bidder but 31 are keeping an eye on it. With $470 I win no money. These rare cuffs are very expensive in FRANCE.
