I am planning on going to Belgium next year.
I will be leaving fom LAX and probably will have a layover in New York.
I think that all the US people should try to book flights so that we could take the same flight over to Belgium.
Would anyone else be interested in coordinating their trip so that we could all travel together?
It would make good sense to arrive together so we could get 1 van from the Belgium airport to the hotel with a minimum amount of problems.
I have not checked out how one goes from the US to Belgium, so I am assuming that a stop in New York and perhaps another in London. Not having been to Belgium before, I do not know if there are direct flights.
I do not know how long the transatlantic flight is, but it would be nice doing the time with friends.
I would also like to know if we could make a visit to our Swedish, Czech or German friends for 2 or 3 days too.
I could handle a 10 day trip oversees.

It's easy nowadays to get to Belgium.

LAX to London Heathrow airport, non-stop, about 10 hours.

Heathrow to central London by subway about 35 minutes.

Central London by Eurostar train to Brussels, Belgium (thru the Channel Tunnel) about 3 hours. Just Google "Eurostar London to Belgium" and all the details are there.

I live an hour north of London and would love to meet up with you guys for a meal and chat.

Holland (the netherlands) isvery close to belgium
from antwerp to amsterdam is about 2 hours
A little bus (van) is possible we can rent A car
I will do this if there is enough interest
also possible to see my collection in Rotterdam
and A tour on the euromast

That sounds great!
We could actually stay at out hotel in Belgium and not have to deal with luggage.
We could make the trip to see your fine collection and do some sightseeing. Then we could do spareribs? and make our way back to Belgium.

I did not know Holland was famous for spareribs. Can they be better than we get here in Texas?
This sound like fun!
I hope there will be enough Yankees that will want to go on this side trip.

I would like to see what other offers we have from the Euro collectors and also learn what sights we should not miss when we are in the area.

Be carefull talking about spareribs indeed, Pat! Texas meat is famous over the whole world....I bet we can't beat them at all.
But there is much more, like herring, pancakes, (maybe) pea soup, etc.

Anyway, a great chance to see some beautyfull things in Belgium and Holland for Lindsay and others.

I do not know how far Wurzburg Germany is from the convention site, but, the 9th annual Euro Lock Collectors meeting will be on Sept 24-26.
If the planning goes well, maybe us gringos can visit our German friends first, attend this show, see some castles, eat Nutella at Guenter and Petra's house, get some German Beer, and then go to Holland, eat some ribs, and go to the convention.

I would like very much to join you. October is my usual vacation time, at the Cannon's convention. The possibility of seeing a lock show and the handcuff show is too much to resist. I'll need to start figuring.

I've been to Holland twice but only on business so I've seen N-o-t-h-i-n-g.
I spent a day in Frankfurt and picked up some nice leg irons but no real hunting.

Hi folks,

I am so sorry to reply rather late on this posting but things at work kept me more than busy. So here I go for now :

As far as travel from the States to Belgium is concerned, I would opt to take a direct flight from the States into Brussels airport. Airtravel within Europe is not as common as it is within the States so local customs over here could get you into trouble when you carry a couple of cuffs in your luguage. I always use Delta for trans-atlantic travel and I know they have direct flights to Brussels from JFK and Atlanta (and probably some other airports, I only tried these two). If you should decide to fly to London, Amsterdam or Paris, the high-speed trains to Antwerp and Brussels are the best option to travel to Antwerp in an inexpensive way.

I can only drive to Brussels airport to pick up people a couple of times and I will give the people I stayed with when I was in the States the first choice of timing (the way it looks now, I'll have to take three weeks off for a one day convention anyway but that's as far as I'll go). Travel to Antwerp from Brussels airport shouldn't be a problem though. The trains I mentionned earlier could save you a couple of Euro's so you can spend those at my table

I have added a couple links to sites with hotels to the 'convention-page' http://users.telenet.be/cuffman/ but these are things you could have googled yourself. I have no experience with hotels in my hometown so it's up to you or previous 'conventionists' to give tips (Michael?).

Transportation will be much easier and we could paty down like we do at the Ontario venue.

I received my AAA magazine today and found a potential good deal.
I am not sure how far Brussels is from the Antwerp convention, but if it is close enough to visit,we can order a card that allows us to Visit the Magritte Museum, Bowers Museum, pulic transpotation and more than 25 other attractions for free. The convention is 4 or 5 months away and we still have no plans set.
Is anyone from the States interested in a side trip to Germany and Holland?
I would love to see the Euro-collections and would prefer to go as a group.
I am willing to set up the hotel stays, transportation and reservations for some of the other side trips.
So far I know there is interest in Waterloo, Anne Frank House and Houdini grave and residence if we start off in New York. I do not know if this place is near where we may be, but it looks like a great place to travel to.
This was shown to me as:
