I recently ran across a company in the UK that is making Replica Mckenzie Handcuffs:

Interesting start! maybe they'll get a little bit more into detail in the future, coming closer to the original. They probably did it from photos.

With all the sudden TV popularity of the Mckenzie mitts it was only a matter of time before
someone tries to "cash in" by creating a similar devise that can be had for a fraction of the
price of an original pair/set.

Good consumerism at work here.

Have been up on this metal fabricator's site for a few years now.

Earlier by far than the recent episode of "Pawn Stars" which featured a pair of the real things.

I had not seen these mitts before and assumed they were a new product.

They have a simple yet clean looking construction.

I wonder if they are stainless?

It would be cool is the guy could make them with a padlocking wrist chain instead of the leather and buckle rig they have now.

Or perhaps a leather strap with a special padlocking buckle.

Yes, these people have made a few variations of this mitt. However, they are lacking some important details to really make this feasible. Take a close look at the originals and you will note certain details that make it work. These are more like pretty toys than anything else as they won't hold anyone.

For a magic escape act, they have possibilities. What they missed is the lock on the side to secure the clam shell. Around the wrist edge it is rolled not only for comfort but the prevent the chain from being slipped off.

Hello,

a nice looking piece of art, but unfortunately , as mentioned before, with some differences to the original mittens.

A question to the experts and proud owners of the real McKenzies:
The little chain is intended to prevent pulling out ones hand out of the mittens especially for smaller wrists.
Does this really work in practice or is the idea behind better then reality?

the McKenzie mitts chain with the rachet works perfectly:
The wrist's circumference can be adjusted in 23 steps between 24 cm and 18,9 cm (9.4 - 7.4 inches). Additionally, the chain could be shortened by twisting it several times like a chain nipper iot reduce the minimum circumference to 17 cm (6.7 inches). This should be sufficient for most ladies.
