I know there were posts in the past regarding large size H&R leg irons vs smaller size.

I wouldn't pay two hundred bucks for them in that condition. They're pretty rusty.

I believe that since the seller knew exactly what he had (H&R super) and probably estimated rightly what the time

and cost would be to bring these "back to life",

$200 was probably a good sale for him and a fair buy for the new owner.

I was the winner of these leg irons.

While I would have preferred a set in better condition, I thought that $200 was a fair price for this set provided they were in working condition. This time the risk was worth it.

Much of the rust is just on the surface. They cleaned up nice with a little oil and function perfectly.



These do not come around for sale too often.

Yes, they are cleaner. I took a rag and wiped them down with a coating of oil. They were covered in a coating of rust 'dust'. I have to say that they cleaned up nicely and look better in person than in the photo I took.

I had a pair of Tower's DL handcuffs that had that same rusty look.

I believe it was from tobacco smoke as it cleaned right off with help from some

0000 steel wool and gun oil.

It left a stain behind on the cuffs just like can be seen on these H&R's

Congrats on your find. I saw them and gagged, but after you have cleaned them a bit I think you did just fine. Your pics are better.

I will have to check, but I think you have one additional link in yours. I count fourteen, seems like 13 is usual. Will get back to you.

Went up and counted the links. Standard is 15, not 13. I still count 14 on yours so you definitely have a bit of an oddity.

Also, there is an irritatingly long article by some old gasbag in the 2006 Handcuffs Annual on the H&R 123 and quite a bit of discussion about the leg irons. If you don't have a copy you might want to borrow one or buy one from Cannon's. You'll swoon at the info included.

There is also a follow up article in the 2007 HA, equally as spellbinding.
