Well if I wanted to buy a pair like what's up for auction then I would simply bid on that pair. However, I or more so, my husband has a pair and I was astonished after hearing what those are going for. So I was hoping someone more experienced than us could tell me the approximate value. The pair up for auction could be realistic or someone could simply be overpaying for or buying this particular pair for some unknown reason to me. If that is a legit gauge than it is likely that we will be looking for a new home for ours....money being tight and all. So if someone else, who doesn't want to be less than helpful like Mr. Atlanta I would be much obliged.

They are rare enough not to have a "standard" price. The pair up for auction looks like it is in prime condition so I expect the price to be high. But even a pair in fair condition would be worth a bit of change.

The last time I was attacked on this forum for being "less than helpful", it turned out that the

attacker was a just hoax and didn't have the "rare" item(s) that they claimed...

Well thank you Mr. Lauher that is the kind of info I was looking for. I'm shocked that they are worth much value I would have guessed they were close to novelty items Lol. We got them from Matt's (my husband) great uncle about nine years ago and we never really had a clue what they were other than an old type of handcuff. Mr.Atlanta I'm not sure what makes you holier than though that you believe I should prove anything to you. Although I do not know nor do I care who you are I will post a few photos...only so that if someone else who looks to the collectors here for some advice perhaps they won't have to run into such a response from you. Perhaps you have been attacked (I can see why from your demeanor) but sometimes there are just some people looking for a little help.

It is interesting to compare the posted pictures with the patent drawing (303953). The shape of the sides from the handle to the jaws are much straighter than the patent drawing which shows a slight curve. It is this spring action that holds the jaws opened or closed. The center shaft was made simpler than the drawing and a few other minor changes were made (now unusual).

Molly, Joe is correct about the price. You may be amazed. Good luck with what you do with them.

Molly. Please post whatever pics you have. Rest assured you will be treated well by these folks. We have some who don't get out much and may seem cranky. Once you get the average opinion here you can rely on it. And from the rarity of these nippers you may do better here than on ebay.

This is indeed a nice nipper. So congratulations to the winner. According to my records this is the second most expensive nipper sold on eBay. (since I started the biweekly updates).
