Hello,

A student at Fitchburg State College, Kaye -- [url=mailto:[email protected]][email protected][/url] -- is writing a paper about the bagno handcuff and looking for history and other information. I recall someone once posting a photograph of some young Italians, in police custody, restrained in bagnos. Anyway, if you feel like posting anything here or contacting Kaye directly, I'm certain she'll appreciate it.

Hello,

I had that photo posted on my now defunct website Reardon's Restraints. Just looked for the photo on the Internet Wayback Machine website and for some reason, that picture hasn't saved. I don't have it anywhere anymore.

Dear Michael,

Yours certainly is a photograph, and a very good one. The photograph I remembered indeed is the one Paul posted. Kaye, who initially contacted me by e-mail, wrote me again expressing thanks for the Forum thread. Perhaps she can fit a line or two into her project stating how diverse and helpful collectors can be (when they aren't busy fighting amongst themselves, of course).

Dear Michael,

Yes, it is. I don't recall -- maybe you or Paul do -- if there was any caption or other text with it when it first was posted here. If not, and all things being equal -- even though they rarely are -- the pictured couple may be Red Brigade members. From the clothing, the period is correct, and how newsworthy is the arrest of an otherwise nondescript man and woman?

I would have also guessed they are red brigade members, a fews back I saw a documentary on the red brigade and in the court case footage there were several people restrained in bagno cuffs. Until I saw this doco, I wouldn't have believed this style of cuff was still being used.

In an earlier thread Ron Spitz provided this picture taken at the CHP Academy in Sacramento. The bagno shown seems to be from Switzerland.

Good work. I think the word "possibly" is superfluous.

He was released from prison in 1998. There is a 2008 colour photograph of him on his Wikipedia page.

Dear Ian,

It must have been an interesting documentary. One thing you definitely may state about the Italians is they are not slaves to or intimidated by complex technology. Bagnos work, use them. Why reinvent the wheel just to keep up with appearances?
