Let's recap, The cuffs are in excellent mechanical condition with firm springs and with the exception of some surface rust they appear to have been used little.

The bows have 8 notches.

Joe, that is a great picture! Funny that it is printed backwards, but I imagine that wasn't all that uncommon with the old glass negatives.

Here is the same tintype that sold on ebay about 5 years ago. It too was reversed, and I corrected it. The one that just sold is in better shape.

It was common in those days to buy photos of celebrities.
This guy must have made a big bust - showing off the handcuffs. It would be nice to find out who he was and who he captured.

Tintypes develop the photo directly on the plate with no negative like modern photos. So the photo is usually reversed. The most notable version is the famous Billy the Kid picture.

Some photographers used cameras equipped wirth reversing mirrors, or re-shot the photo to re-reverse it. There's a good article on tintypes on Wikipedia.
