Cleaning handcuffs?

How do you remove this brown grease they say is on handcuff?

It looks like a set of star handcuffs to me. These are police issue in Austria, you can pick them up for $30 or less. So, with this set, at this price, I'd say not at all.

In general, WD-40, a bristle brush, and lots of time. Electrolysis is also good. But with these, the rust has really eaten into the cuffs. I'd stay away.

It looks like mostly rust.

As for the grease, try brake cleaner and a bristle brush.

For the rust, electrolysis seems the best way, but you can't repair the pitting where the rust has eaten into the metal.

From years in the metal working trades, a couple or 3 tips..Coke or Pepsi, they both have LOW levels of phoshoric acid, which will slowly eat away at ferrous oxide (RUST). Just dump your rusty tools or cuffs into a plastic container of your preferred beverage. May take a few days, then soak to rinse in clean water then in WD-40 or similiar. For SERIOUS cases use a body prep solution from your local auto-body shop, or Best I've found, Evapo-Rust Cleaner (TM). Google the Evapo-Rust online! It works as they claim, again remember to rinse and protect after use. All these solutions attack the Rust, and should not bother the underlying steel, just keep an eye on them though!
