Hi all,

All is well and thriving on the divorce front.
Some progress is about to be made as far as the cuff appraisal is concerned.
One oddity (among many) is that the terrible, horrible, evil and gutteral attorney (a legal genius, at aleast in her mind) is fixated on Bean Cobb leg irons.

I agree with your statement about how "common" this leg iron is next the the Towers.

I have four pairs in good condition and the average price is $172. Three sets were around $140 and one pair at $250 including all postage, etc.

Thank you for the quick replies received already. This does bring up another topic that I do not think has been discussed much here.
When would we say was the collectors heyday? When were cuffs worth the most.
Would anyone disagree that prices for cuffs has dropped in the last 2 or 3 years due to the ecomony.
In sworn testimony, I stated that prices have dropped about 20 -25% (I think) due to economic conditions and for the fact that many collectors are limiting what they acquire.
I remember when French Chain Cuffs were way up there in price. I just bought one for $250.

I got into leg irons late so mine were purchased recently-very good condition $261 total. I keep a copy of my purchases so I could fax or email the ebay cover sheet if you need it. These were the first really nice pair that went the distance on ebay in over a year so they would be near the current top value.

I think this pint sized female equivelent of Melvin Belli and her client were counting on this piece being in the $5,000 to 10,000 range.
I do not know what made them think this, but I know that their greed has prevented them from putting forth any good faith efforts to settle this case.
If a nice cuff like a Bean LI is worth a couple hundred bucks, I would think she would want to take her 100 bucks to the bank....not spend 3 or 4 hundred more with Mrs. Belli to "see" how much more I will give her.
If she likes this particular item so much, I would have given it to her.
Maybe I should...as long as she gives me a couple grand for it.

Since the financial part of a divorce case fenerally devolves areund divvying up the marital assets, it all comes down to gross dollars in teh end. How about if you GIVE her the Bean Cobbs and claim that as $10,000 of your part of the settlement.

"POS" is not getting paid by either one of us.
I think she is plans on getting paid by commission when this is all over and done with.
I would expect the "POS's" client to file bankruptcy or resort to some other drastic measures to avoid paying any one she owes money to. Maybe "POS" will never get paid. Don't know and don't care.
As I said before, maybe I will sell her the whole collection and she could pay me what they think it's worth. With all the dough, I can move to Tahiti, buy a penthouse and collect Tahitian handcuffs.
I should buy up all the Bean Cobb leg irons in the world and sell them to her for $5K a piece.
I wonder if she also thinks Towers might be worth a grand each.
Harvards must be worth at least $500.

Here is how small the world is:
I know a nautical antique dealer who had a nice booth at one of the larger antique shows. "POS" went to his booth and asked him to hold $30,000 worth of antique armor and stuff. She asked him to hang on to it for her till she could afford to pay him. Months and months went by and the dealer kept on calling her to find out when she would honor her part of the deal. She NEVER did call him back to say that she either lost interest, or couldn't come up with the bucks. She had NO integrity whatsoever!
Then "POS's" client tried selling off some of my antiques at a local store and after she got "busted", "POS" had the nerve to call the dealer she stiffed earlier to ask some questions about my stuff that was being hocked. Dealer told her to kiss his gluteus maximus!

Sorry to hear about divorce attorney's as I am in the middle of a very contentious dissolution. I think if you show a few prices from ebay around the time after you split (with considerably value than it have in the past) it couldn't be assessed for what it may have fetched. If the POS is working on a future percentage it sounds like she obviously wants a percentage of your collection.

Good luck. I hate divorce attorneys and the whole system. My wife is so stubborn she may have to pay at least $50,000 to not have to pay me $10,000.

I thought I had answered you back, but I relized that I didn't.
I think you gave me the chain version Yuil cuff.
I have the collection in storage and it is hard to dig them out.
I have to go from memory, but I am almost 100% certain that they were the chain version. I will check and let you know when I find them. I want to be 100% on the legal forms...no room for error when it comes to handcuffs and divorce.
I think you even wrote a message on the box.

I will use it to defend my position against the evil and increasingly dispicable and incompetent attorney's false assumption that I am holding a super rare Bean Cobb leg iron. In the picture, also appears a Bean Cobb handcuff. It makes me wonder if that item is worth as much as Bill Gate's home on the French Riviera
Now if the Dark Side thinks the LI is worth all the tea in China I can show that I sold this one or at least had it for sale.

Sorry to hear it's still dragging on.

The last pair I bought about 15 years ago (adjust for inflation for sure) was $150.

So...just give them to the attorney and beg for mercy. Should just about square up her bill.
