Purchased an interesting pair of handcuffs today at a junk shop.

Have you ever seen any 3-way S&W Handcuffs?
I have spent a few hours searching all the collectors sites with no luck. Even the design is unique, the 3rd cuff being piggybacked on the hinge of the 2nd cuff as such: (]-[)-[).
Appear to have a matte finish, 6 digit S/N, usual "Made In U.S.A.... Springfield, MASS"

Still amazed I made such a find, as this store has been ruined by fat slob "dealers" and "antique" store owners who park their carcasses up to the showcase and look stuff up on their phones.

These are rare cuffs, but quite interesting. I bought a pair from a guy who worked for S&W in the late 70s. He said these were made as one special order.

There is a patent on them by a company called the Triple Cuff Corporation with a Joseph Daleo
listed as the inventor.

My guess is that this Triple Cuff Corporation placed a contract with S&W for a relatively small number of such cuffs. They have two patents: 4249401 (the one we are talking about) and 4162622 in which a third cuff shares the hinge pin directly with one of the two regular cuffs.

Hi all,
Thank you for the patent #s Joe, I thought of searching for them but I'm sure you saved me much time and frustration.

I do have excellent news, at the end of my estate sale run this morning I went back to the store and found another pair! I did a good search, but I found no other police/corrections/military items that may have been donated along with the cuffs.

Got a chance to read the patents, very interesting that the inventor and company are located here on Long Island, NY. Considering I don't think they were ever used here, its possible they originated from the inventor, or at least an associate of his.

The 2nd design seems a bit awkward for realistic use. I wonder if it was ever produced?

I think I am going to auction off my extra pair, I'm a general memorabilia collector, so one pair is enough for my collection. And yes, the apparent rarity has started to cause me much curiosity on value.

No offense to the interested parties, but as an outsider I am more comfortable doing an ebay auction than a private sale. However, as a small gesture of gratitude I will offer free shipping with mention of this thread. Going to list it tonight, will update

Thanks for that info Joe and I'm delighted to say that I've got a pair of the other Daleo patented design, patent #4162622. I wasn't previously aware that either model had been produced commercially by S&W or anybody else and as I've been a follower (and collector!) of their products for many years I'd appreciate a copy of, or a link to, any of their literature or other reference works if any of the contributors here can help, please.

My pair was made for me by my big buddy Chris Gower here in England, using one-and-a half pairs of standard S&W 100's - the workmanship is to Chris's usual high standard and I'm delighted to have them in my collection.

Delighted to say that I now have a set of cuffs made to the Daleo patent #4249401 that very nicely complement the patent #4162622 that I wrote about earlier this year.

The cuffs were again made for me by my buddy Chris Gower and really are superb, using one-and-a-half pairs of standard S&W model 100 nickel cuffs and of course made to Chris's usual high standard. A few pics are attached.
