Vintage Police Billy Clubs (Night Sticks)???

Hello, I have had a lot of police officers in my famliy and have had a number of police related items pass through my hands over the years because of that. Most of the cuffs, keys, and restraints I keep but I don't have much use for the rest of it. Since I started cleaning out my family room and work shop, I have come accross a few item that I would like to sell but I have very little knowledge of their value. I was hoping that someone here can enlighten me on the value of these two items:







These two billy clubs (I don't know if that is the proper name for them.....just what we always called them) were owned and used by my Grandfather.....but they were not stolen from a scrap pile, so don't go beating him up. lol! My Grandpaw was a Monroe Co. Michigan Deputy Sheriff in the 1960's and 1970's and gave me these two billy clubs (and several other items) about 20 or more years ago and have been laying around my shop ever since. I never followed him into law enforcment and don't collect police equipment so I am looking to sell them. Does anyone here know what's a fair price to ask for them? They are made of all hardwood (no metal, plastic, or any other material), the black one has been heavily used but the brown one not so much, and both are missing the rawhide strings that were around the handles. The photos should cover any other questions.

Otherwise known as a truncheon, cudgel or baton. Some of the ebay sites won't let you list them because they are classed as a weapon.
The ornate painted ones from England fetch the best prices, but I have no idea what yours would be worth.

e-bay once warned me that would delete my account if I ever tried to auction my late '70s Cocobolo nightstick again.
I've since decided to keep it anyway.

eBay has some weird policies. I had an interesting discussion with an eBay staph person about a disallowed auction. I showed him where they have categories for stuff that is completely banned. It didn't resolve anything, but we had a laugh.

Dear Dennis,

You have a better chance of resolving something on eBay if you discuss it with a strep rather than with a staph person. Occasionally, the E-Bay Coli department is helpful, but the impetigo personnel are useless. eBay's MRSA staff is the worst.

Yes indeed, the old bay has become a bit prissy of late.

There was a time not too long ago when they were a popular trading venue for those of us that also collect vintage and antique pneumatic arms.
One day one of the corporate folks must have come to the conclusion that you could theoretically 'put an eye out,' sue the bay and become the richest one-eyed-jack in the country.

Their inconsistencies in policing the site are a bit humorous at times:
You may bid on large throwing knives, but not on small throwing stars;
You may bid on slingshots, but not BB guns;
You may bid on swords, but not clubs.

If everyone that's been on the bay for a while contributed to the list, we would probably wind up with a full page of illogical e-policies.

It seems as if the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing.

I have a police baton that was used in 1912. It is leather on the outside. It might be lead inside. The handle has a very intricate leather weave. I don't think that the strap is original. I want to sell it. Are you interested?

PS You should be very proud of your Grandpa. Those were very tough times. Racial issues, anti-war protests...etc. I have been a cop for 30 years, currently a Patrol Sergeant. I wasn't a cop your Grandpa's day, but I lived in it.

Hi All..I have a similar shape night stick as the black one at the bottom in the picture at the top of page. It has a Smith & Wesson metal button logo inset at top of the butt of handle. A good percent of paint is gone, more than one pictured but worn in same manner. Wondering if anybody knows of any online (Nightsticks not allowed on eBay) auctions that handle this sort of thing? Would also be interested in any estimates of value. Hard to find any info about them on net. Found it at Flea Mkt on Saturday.
